Since I've tried it, I am amazed by its performance. I've used this bit with both a hand drill and a drill press. The drill press consistently gave me better results, and the cleanest holes. I had a project that required a lot of holes and I didn't have to stop and clear the chips once, it really does work like they advertise. Meaning that they are only good for a few holes, and they dull out. I was working on an OAK project when I tried the Tempest bits, and they were solid. I probably drilled over 200 holes in hard oak and they withstood the test with flying colors. Not only did they not dull out but there was no burning and they produced nice clean shavings rather than sawdust.Not only do I recommend these new bits, but I ALREADY HAVE!!! The hole that it drilled into a 2x4 clamped to my drill press table was nice and clean on both the edges and most of the bottom. It definitely seems like it should do a good job drilling large holes.Personally I would be very hesitant to use a drill bit this large with a hand-held drill of any kind.
