Can this be used as a food grade anti-caking agent when the packets are placed inside spice bottles or tins?

Our paper packet material has gotten tested and passed the US FDA 21 CFR 176.170 compliance test, which means that it is safe to be in direct contact with food.
Many of our customers are using these packets to prevent clumping of spices and other powder.

are these gun safe ( non-corrosive )?

Accepted Answer

Yes, all silica gel packets are safe.  The beads will not stain or release moisture even when they become saturated with moisture. The mechanism of absorption is purely physical, with no change in size or shape of the particles even they become saturated.  You don't have to worry about beads being corrosive.

All silica gel packets work in air-tight seal container. If they are open to air, they are constantly absorbing moisture in open air and become saturated right away. 
Please, keep them tight seal as much as possible. 
 
The below is for you to estimate how many packets you should use for your container size. 
This is general estimate when used in an air-tight sealed container. The amount of silica gel needed will depend on several factors:

It's always good to place extra packets than recommended for extra protection and to cover the factors mentioned above. 
 
2 gram 50 packets that you inquire about is our paper packets. Paper packets are food safe and you can use them for non-food uses, too.  Paper packets only contain white beads. Therefore, you can't visually see the color change when the beads are saturated. You can use weight method for paper packets. If the packets weigh 30% more than its original weight, it is time to recharge them. Available sizes are 1,2,3,5, and 10 gram. 
 
We launched Aiwa packets in December 2017 which are food grade safe. You can use them for non-food uses, too. Aiwa packets are semi-transparent and contain mixture of white beads and orange beads. White beads tested the best in performance compared with colored beads. These packets have the benefit of highest performing white beads with few orange beads to serve as indicator. Orange beads will change to dark green when saturated. Available sizes are 2,3,5,10,20, and 50 gram.

What size packets (in grams) would be needed for 8 ounces of dried dog treats?

If you put your dog foods in your container, space of 70%(5.6 ounce) will be dog foods and 30%(2.4 ounce) will be space for silica gel packet. I think 2 Gram is enough for your container. Thank you.

Question 4

I am using these in a pelican camera case, how long should they last?

I'm assuming Pelican cases are airtight. If so, they'll last for a very long time. The silica will dry out the air in the case and it'll stay that way. But its lifetime will depend on how often/long it's exposed to humidity in the external air when the case is opened.
