Mastech MS8268 Series Digital AC/DC Auto/Manual Range Digital Multimeter

I needed a basic Multimeter and after reading a lot of reviews on inexpensive meters. I picked this one which I ordered from Amazon. My only hesitation was because some folks were reporting that no manual came with the unit and I didn't know anything about how to use one. Three days after ordering it arrived in a perfect box with all listed parts AND a full instruction manual. The unit is large, but nicely hand-holdable. It says Mastech MS8268 on the unit. I really like the pull-out stand that allows the unit to support itself upright on a flat surface for easier reading when my hands are using the test leads.I am not an electrician, but I needed a meter for general household use and specifically to test some audio power cables I was building. I have only used it so far to check continuity on the power cables, capacitance on some interconnects and voltage from a few home outlets. The large display screen is easy to read and I really like the input terminal ports that light up to designate proper connections depending on the selection made with the rotary switch. Everything feels solid and well made.So far, everything works like a charm. I might have to order a set of alligator clip test leads to make it easier to measure smaller handheld objects.I am very happy with this unit and would highly recommend it to anyone needing a household digital multimeter.

Very good tool at a really exceptional value.I have only 2 relatively negative comments. Sometimes you do not get any reading form the meter, or shows only 0000. In some occations, this might be deceiving, you probably think you are reading 0 and actually have something other than 0. I realized this once I knew a 0 reading was not possible. Then I turn it off and switched back on and had the correct reading. You have to turn the multimeter off and back on again in order to make it work. It is as if it resets itself and works fine again.The other minor thing is plastic housing in the upper part in the side, does not match perfectly the lower side. Kind of low quality housing for a really good meter. It is heavy though, but it is kind of good feeling. Being heavy makes it feel as higher quality. It is sturdy as well, but plastic is hard plastic, not rubber like.Auto range works great and very sensible. It takes a while to getting used to switching to desired range and back to autorange, but just a matter of use.All and all, it is excellent for what it costs. Really happy about it.

I had an old junky analog multimeter for years and years. Lost one of the leads and decided to just throw it into the trash. Decided to spend a little bit more, and this seemed to fit the bill. It's a little more pricey than the cheapest units, but a lot cheaper than the high-end ones. Leads are good quality, I like that it uses regular batteries (not 9v), selector is clear, and the auto-ranging digital readout is so handy for me. Click the dial selector over to the measurement you want to do, and the ports you need to use light up. When you plug the leads in, the lights go off, so you know you're all set. Has a couple of functions that I haven't used before - it can test capacitance (vs. just faking it by testing volts and seeing if volts > 0 to see if capacitor is OK) and a couple of other functions that I haven't figured out yet.Overall, reasonably-priced, handy multimeter. There were a few reviews about non-working meters, but I had no trouble with mine.

FLUKE TL71)!I opted to buy this multi-meter due to its low price.Comments:Firstly, the meter did not come with any batteries, which by the other reviewers' comments are of poor quaiity, so I quickly installed 3 AAA rechargeable 750 mAh Eneloop (2,100 rechargable cycle) batteries and they have lasted a very long time since I do not frequently use the backlight option. Panasonic BK-4MCCA4BA eneloop AAA New 2100 Cycle Ni-MH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries, 4 Pack Alternatively, you could opt to use AAA alkaline batteries or higher capacity (950 mAh) Eneloop batteries (Panasonic Eneloop Pro) if you use this meter for extended periods with the backlight: Panasonic BK-4HCCA4BA eneloop Pro AAA New High Capacity Ni-MH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries, 4 Pack Secondly, the test leads were quite useless since their metal `test poles' were too short. I have noticed this finding in many other peoples' reviews. Thus, just discard the test leads that are supplied with the meter.Apart from these two initial problems, I have been delighted with the performance once I replaced the test leads with the surprisingly inexpensive set ($ 21.48) from Fluke (TL71) which have much longer metal `test poles', are very `elegant', and have very soft and flexible cables! What a joy to use them! Fluke TL71 Premium Test Lead Set, Right Angle As such, I had to pay alot more money to finally get a functional meter.Further Details:The meter is very big and `chunky', the thick green outer casing is flexible and will prevent damage caused by knocks and drops, and the meter has a lifting rod to more easily display the screen in some circumstances, if and when you wish to use it.The readings are displayed in large LCD black digits, and there is a backlight when performing tests in dark places but which only stays on for a approximately 5 seconds after activation to save battery life.The appropriate COM and TEST sockets are very helpfully illuminated in red (around the socket) when you switch the test dial to measure different electrical parameters, and of the leads are inserted in the incorrect sockets then the red lights of the correct sockets flask in red lights thereby ensuring that the users do not make an error in inserting the test leads in the incorrect sockets, and there is a 250V 10A fuse contained within the battery box at the back.Apart from the initial requirements to get a functional multi-meter, this meter has been robust and performs every task I require of it (but N.B. I am not a qualified electrician) so I rate it as a 4 star product.The author declares that NO CONFLICTS OF INTEREST EXIST in the review of this product or any other product mentioned in this review.

Puse 5 estrellas porque es un multimetro excelente con muchas funcionalidades. Me gusto que tiene una protección para caídas y en caso de que pongas mal los cables para medición este lo detecta y te indica como deben ser las conexiones para hacer las pruebas.Se los recomiendo a los estudiantes un poco experimentados de Electricidad y electrónica, así como también a personas que sean fanáticas de la electricidad o tengan algún taller donde ocupan realizar mediciones eléctricas precisas. Excelente producto 100% recomendable.La entrega fue muy rápida a pesar que venia desde Estados unidos. Gracias.

Self trained here so be warned and this is my second owned multimeter, my first one was getting old around 20 years and was not autorange, also my old one lacked the warning sounds and lights if the probs are in the wrong ports. I love that it reminds me to move the probs! So far so good, a month in now, for my level of expertise it works great and looks good, also the probs can be stored on the back safely when not in use, got caps to lessen tip exposur which are handy. Lighted screen, used it twice in darker areas to take some readings, there must be a way to keep it lit longer but for now it turns the light off rather fast to save the batteries. It warns you with a loud beep when its about to turn off, just turn off already, who cares, you just have to turn the knob or push a button and it wakes. It comes with a resitor testor, I like it because its simpler than trying to push on each end with the probes when the resistor rolling around.

il a l'air assez complet, assez précis et assez résistant, le tout pour un petit prix piles comprises. Un petit étui avec, ça aurait été pas de refus comme qui dirait, voire une sacoche, mais bon, pour une vingtaine d'euros, c'est le prix d'un jeu de piles, re recommande

Questo multimetro ha moltissime funzioni e oltre alle classiche funzioni di misura corrente e voltaggio ha anche la funzione di capacimetro e controllo di giunzioni pnp e transistor con l'apposito zoccolo multi funzione che risulta pratico anche per testare condensatori resistenze diodi e altri componenti che entrano negli slot dello zoccolo multi funzione. Lo strumento, durante i vari test che ho fatto mi è sembrato molto accurato anche in modalità auto, la scala si aggiorna abbastanza rapidamente. Una delle funzioni più interessanti è il segnale acustico/visivo per il posizionamento dei puntali che può tornare utile in caso di errori di montaggio sullo strumento. I puntali in dotazione sono discreti e ben appuntiti, il tester della continuità è altrettanto valido, voltmetro e amperometro e capacimetro anche, ho effettuato qualche misura di frequenza e si attestava a 49,9hz, praticamente perfetto! L'unica cosa che tengo a precisare è di guardarsi bene dall'usare questo strumento con troppa leggerezza su tensioni superiori a quella di linea "250V" in quanto nonostante sia "classificato" come cat.II ovvero isolato fino a 1000V, essendo un multimetro di fascia bassa non presenta adeguate protezioni di input per quei voltaggi quindi il minimo errore potrebbe danneggiare lo strumento, sarebbe un Peccato romperlo per usi per cui non è progettato visto che per un uso normale come tensione di rete e bassi voltaggi e soprattutto elettronica, a mio avviso è un ottimo strumento a un prezzo veramente molto interessante, credo che su questa fascia di prezzo di 21-30€ sia il migliore in circolazione! La spedizione è stata puntuale dalla Cina con tanto di traking sempre disponibile e speditomi con raccomandata internazionale, ovviamente I tempi sono lunghi ma la pazienza verrà premiata! Uno strumento completo e pratico! Aggiungo anche che la retro illuminazione e lo stand da tavolo con la custodia in gomma gli danno altri punti, come estetica è comparabile con strumenti di fascia prezzo molto più alta!!
