HP LaserJet Pro M15w Wireless Monochrome Printer, Works with Alexa (W2G51A)

I have had a home office for decades and the early copiers/printers were toner types. Then everything went to ink cartridges and it was nice but as time, cost went by and the inconveniences of ink cartridges grew. I was happily shocked to see that inexpensive toner printers are back! No more ink cartridges drying up and no more projects ruined in the middle of printing. What is really nice is that the technology of toner printers have improved greatly. I bought this mostly for office work and printing out letters/emails but I printed a website page and was shocked to see how well it printed images. The printer only prints with black toner but I didn’t know it had such a broad spectrum of gray. I printed a couple of color photos from my iPhone onto plain paper and was impressed with the photo print quality. I know I’m on a tangent but I just had to share that info. I like the size of the printer. It prints very quickly and with very little noise. The quality of the prints are on the level of the “best” setting of a ink printer. Very crisp and share images/type. I have a Mac air computer and I went to HP website, downloaded the driver and the program walked you through and I had the printer online and my iPhones connected in about a half hour. I would consider my computer skills about a 7 on a 1-10 scale so please feel comfortable with installing this on your computer. You can connect this to your computer via wire but it recommends that you not and go WiFi instead which I did. The installation was much faster and all my devices recognized that the printer was online and immediately connected with the printer. Air drop connection with this printer has been the best yet! I’ve have struggled with printers connection issues in the past but this printer is has flawless connection. I love it’s simple simple simple. Simple set up, simple operation, prints simply and clean and simply connects to all my devices. I’m not a photographer but if I was, I’d experiment with black and white photography and find some shiny plain paper and try this printer out to make some old time photos. Pretty cool machine.

This is the third Laserjet I've owned (previously - the 1012 and the p1102w). For the record, the other LaserJets didn't wear out. I replaced the 1012 (donated to Goodwill) because I wanted wifi capability, and the p1102w is still chugging away at my work. I brought it home during the heavy quarantine months, and realized that it made a much better home printer than my ink-sucking color printer . Now that I will be returning to work on location - I will need to take the p1102w back as well. So I got my hands on the most updated model I can find. Full disclosure - I haven't had it very long. Still, I know what to expect. If I'm wrong, I'll come back and change my review. The good: Obviously, it's small. Fits into compact spaces and travels well. The printers in this line are not made for high capacity, but they are reliable (IMHO) and they last. Print quality is great. My set-up experience was very smooth. Wifi and remote printing work fine. The not-so-good: First of all, I'm not crazy about the design. The on/off/wifi/reset buttons don't feel like buttons - more like the plastic-y touch panel on a cheap microwave. Paper tray extension look little fragile. And... did it have to be white? The p1102w has a separate envelope tray above the paper feed. I didn't use it much, but it was nice to have. I'll miss that. I also expect the M15w to have a similar print limitation: 20-25 pages before it heats up and started curling the pages. I don't do a lot of volume printing so it's rarely an issue. Over-all I highly recommend it, so long as your needs are simple. Actually, I think simplicity is the key to the compact HP Laserjet line - fewer things to go wrong in a simply built unit.

This is an excellent, easy to set up, and small printer. I sell on ebay and Etsy and use this for packing slips and shipping labels so the fact that it prints only black wasn't an issue. Printing from the phone is easy, but not a big deal to me. But what I really like about the printer is you can register with Google Cloud Print allowing you to print from any pc or phone from anywhere, even thousands of miles away. I do not understand why some reviews mention a difficult set up or not being able to print from their computer. This was by far the easiest wireless set up I've ever done (previous wireless printers were all Canon). I used HP's Android app to initially set up the printer, and I downloaded the Windows driver software from HP, installed it, and my computer had no problem recognizing the printer and printing to it. And my computer isn't a new one.....a 5 year old Toshiba laptop running Windows 8.1. I did not use any CD that came with the printer...I think it's quicker and easier to just download from HP. The computer does come with a USB cable to connect physically with a computer. Also, if you don't have a wireless router you can still connect wirelessly using Wi-Fi Direct (I haven't tried that yet). After I bought this, but before I received it, I read an online review from some tech website which was overall a very good review, the only flaw they saw was that "the text was a little too light and pale". That made be a little nervous because of all the dark black in the shipping labels I print, but I cannot tell the difference between these and ones I used to print on an inkjet. My reason for buying this was to save on ink cartridges; I was going through at least 1 black cartridge a month at $28 each. I thought about the Epsons with refillable ink tanks, but I didn't like some things about those models, so I decided to go with this. The toner cartridge yields 1,000 pages vs 300 pages for a Canon 240XL ink cartridge, AND the HP toner can be bought online for only $5 more than I was paying for the Canon ink.

What more can I say about the HP LaserJet Pro M15w? It does as it's supposed to; its only function is to receive documents and print them onto paper. This was exactly what I needed. The LaserJet Pro M15w is very small-- only about as big as an older inkjet printer, if not a little larger. The only visual indicators show power, errors, and connectivity to a wireless LAN (Wi-Fi network.) Print quality is as I expected from a LaserJet: sharp and quick. Gradients also look good. I did have an alignment issue with some prints, but this was resolved by placing the paper stack in the feeder again. The M15w works well for small, intermittent print jobs, but I wouldn't recommend using it in a larger office environment. The included "introductory" toner cartridge is good for about five hundred prints, and is replaced with the HP 48A cartridge. Unfortunately, this printer and the included software implement a system where only HP Original cartridges are allowed to print, and HP Original toner cartridges are more expensive than re-manufactured counterparts. Reviews say they haven't been up to quality, only providing a few hundred prints before giving up. The print management software is produced by HP and integrates well with their other computing products; I used an HP laptop to configure the printer, and it set up instantly and started working without a hitch. Service documentation for this printer seems to be scarce, and this printer is not serviceable by the end user. This is okay, but I don't want to replace my printer if it fails. Overall, this printer is good for small print jobs, and the ones that it does are done well. Toner for the printer is expensive but high-quality. If you need a good printer that does what it says on the box and nothing more, then the HP LaserJet Pro M15w is a good choice.

I am very pleased with the printer. I was looking for a low cost laser printer to handle occasional black and white printing for both work and personal. From what I could figure out, the cartridge should last through about 1000 pages of use. The printer cost around $108 and this includes the cartridge inside - so I think it's a pretty good deal for my needs. And once I got it up and running with the WiFi it printed from the computers, iPhones, and iPads on our network without any issues - quick and a good resolution. BUT YOU WILL NEED TO GO ONLINE AND READ HOW TO INSTALL THE PRINTER AND DOWNLOAD A PARTICULAR HP APP in order to install. The printer came with very poor instructions as well as a CD - which was fairly useless since I do not have a CD reader on my computer. I think actual instructions would have been helpful, but I knew from other reviewers that if I bought this printer it would take some research to get it up and running. So here's what worked for me (once I accepted that there were no real instructions): Go to HP and create a log in account. Then look up the support info for the printer, which is referred to as "Troubleshooting" if I recall correctly. You will also need to download the HP Smart App to your smart phone (the installation is done using the smart phone and the app). In order to setup the WiFi on the printer, you need to create an account on the Smart App and add the serial number for the printer (this is on the side of the box, so be sure to keep the box and not disturb the outside label codes when opening.) You will need to know your WIFI network name and password. The HP Smart App will ask you to identify your network, and then it will ask you to choose a special HP Network to complete the installation. It seems that HP's dedicated network then takes care of everything else. After HP completes its setup, you will then need to switch your phone back to your normal network. Once everything was setup, I could print from all the devices on the network automatically. I did not need to download drivers, I think the Smart App is all that is needed. Great printer - wish HP had included a pamphlet on how to install the printer on a WIFI network. Also, would have been nice if the box tape had not been taped over the serial number label on the box since that was the only place I could find the serial number. Never found it on the product (which was where the online guide wanted me to look for it). TIP 1: photograph the labels on the box before you open it. TIP 2: go online with HP, sign in, look for the support on the model, and download/use the HP Smart App. TIP 3: the diagram of how to unpack the printer is the only real instruction in the box - so don't expect much help from the included pamphlets. I've given it 5 stars because I thought it was a great price, prints well for my purposes and is easy to print to from a WiFi network. I'm not dinging the setup because I did get it going and it works. Setup is (hopefully) a once in a lifetime event.

Amazon has been great with me LOL..They out did themselves once again. The items were scheduled to deliver today (the 17th) but these were delivered yesterday. which very cool for a loyal customer like me LOL.. Now the product... it is easy to set up like from taking out of the box to printing process, it takes me 7 minutes. It could have been done sooner but I had to look for my wifi password coz I recently changed my router to a new one and it has a three mile long password hehehehe. I tested my first printing via my iPhone 12 P M I have one doc that needed to print. It worked like a charm but it came out a tad unclear but I suspected it was a very first paper to print so, I ain't worried. All in all I am happy with this purchase. However, I will update my review if there is something happen along the way. I don't print much though by then the returning window may be closed. Fingers are crosse as I really like it and want to keep it. The package came well packed & HP did great with an image showing how to remove the printer off of the box. By the way, this model only print black though. Edit: It has been about five months since I purchased this printer. It is still working just fine, and I’ve never had any issue with it. It connects to the wi go very fast too. I have been printing via my MacBook, work laptop, and my iPhone with no issues. Hopefully it will last a long time.

After reading a few reviews talking about how difficult the set-up was, I wasn't sure what to expect, especially since one of my devices is pretty old and has gotten grumpier the older it gets. Sure enough, it couldn't find my wifi and my computer didn't already have a compatible driver, but using the HP Smart app easily solved that issue in just a couple minutes and I was up and printing. Next, I updated the firmware, which was also very simple and quick. I'm very impressed with the print quality even though it's not the blackest black on paper, but it's perfectly fine for my needs. The size is so small, compact very light weight. I mainly wanted a printer for my infrequent printing needs and this fits the bill. I'd had ink jet printers in the past and got tired of always replacing the pricey, dried out cartridges. They never seemed to last very long and the laster printers I'd used at work always seemed more reliable. All in all, I'm very happy with this printer, especially for the price. If you're looking for a simple, compact laser printer and don't need anything heavy duty with lots of bells and whistles, I'd highly recommend this one.

Go to the last line... don't buy this printer. I purchased my first printer in 1993. I have been around a while. Used a lot of printers. Had some good ones, had some bad ones. The best I can figure more than a dozen. THIS IS BY FAR THE VERY WORST. I have tried to be polite. Worked with it the best I could. It has never worked reliably, or well. AVOID THIS PRINTER, it could be you might want to avoid all HP products, though I realize that leaves you with few options. This was my review: It takes more time to remove the tape then it does to do the rest of the set up. The cartridge installs mindlessly, just drop it in. Add paper, plug in the machine. Go to the website listed in the instructions, it took three minutes to follow the instructions there, mostly waiting. Next step, print! Super simple, and trouble free here. Windows 10 laptop, wireless connection. BTW, although it doesn't seem to mention this anywhere this has a USB connection on the back and comes with a USB printer cord. So, for those worried they might have wireless networking problems, you have USB to fall back on. It is also clear that you needn't involve your wireless router. This would make the connection to any WiFi enabled device easily. In fact it's printing music from my WiFi mp3 player as we speak ;-) If this tiny little printer acts up, I'll be back to let you know (it's January 2020). UPDATE: It is now August, seven months. I have had the unit unplugged as it isn't used much, maybe once a month to print a return receipt. That outlet is right under the window and it's summer. Well I needed to print an RMA sheet and plugged the printer back in. Now Windows does not find the printer. I run the HP software, a maddening loop that never finishes. I dig out the old instructions, go online, set up the printer again and nothing. After SIX setup attempts I finally get the drivers to load and print my sheet. I've seen others write a similar complaint. If this printer looses power, or you have to unplug it for any reason, you will have to reinstall the drivers. I've used PCs for the better part of twenty five years. This is the single most irritating design flaw I have even encountered. If the reinstall went smoothly, like it did the first time I set it up, I wouldn't have bothered with this update. But, the fix took more than three hours. By that time I had found an old inkjet that could hobble through the RMA sheet. I did, after six attempts get the drivers loaded. I have long experience with computers, if I found it difficult many wouldn't bother at all. So disappointing, back to look for printers. UPDATE 2: It is not easy to find a simple printer in this price point. The problem HAD been this wasn't a simple printer in the end. If you followed the story this far you know that a once easy going printer broke bad. You'll also remember I spent a long time downloading a "fix". It turns out the fix is good. I left the printer unplugged for days and when plugged in the PC finds it in about a minute! Rating restored. Maybe feedback worked? EDIT 2: THIS IS A PIECE OF JUNK. AVOID THIS PRINTER, you will go bald pulling your hair out. JUST DON'T DO IT!
