I can give this product one thing - it does indeed keep the salt contained within from spilling out normally, and when you use it as intended, the salt does fall into that little antechamber before going into your food, so you probably won't accidentally add too much if you pay attention.That said, it's proven almost worthless for its intended use.The idea is to have a salt shaker with a one-way chamber - when depressed, salt can only enter the chamber, and when pressed, salt can only exit the chamber. Problem is, that middle chamber is bigger than it should be, or the entrance/exit holes around it are too big, and it allows salt to pour in and out both at the same time if it's not fully pressed or depressed. If you're anywhere in-between: the spice will flow~This wouldn't necessarily be a problem, except that every time I try to dispense some salt, the button 'sticks' on the way back out, due to friction and salt crystals getting in the way. Almost every time, it's gotten stuck in such a way that salt continues to pour or trickle out of the bottom, from the top. It seems like the salt is getting ground up into finer particles with each use, and those are able to slip into the mechanism, further jamming it over time. I can imagine this problem will only get worse due to that infiltration of particles.I can at least say, if the centerpiece of this product worked as expected (maybe better materials, a stronger spring on the button so it always pushes back fully, a design that never leaves an opening on the top and bottom at the same time no matter how far the button is pressed) then I think it would be a successful concept. It's pretty easy to use that rounded part to slowly sprinkle the salt out over the food (although more challenging than the average salt shaker) and it didn't take any trial and error to angle it correctly to keep any from pouring straight out when the button is pressed. But in its current state, it completely fails to do the job it's intended for. Even if my unit was faulty, the design flaw that allows the top and bottom to open up simultaneously makes this unreliable as a way to 'measure' spices.

Aesthetically quirky, but fun and functional, this Salt/Pepper grinder is great at premeasuring for recipes. I wish I had one of these for every herb and spice in my kitchen.
