medium difficulty: quite enjoyable
I have all this author's Cryptic Crossword books, and have mostly been quite pleased. His clues are challenging, but fair and for me, just about right. However, two things: this most recent volume had clues which I found somewhat vague, and he even admits so in his explanations. And secondly, as talented as he is, he can't seem to stop himself from revealing his political biases, and he does so in a manner which is insulting to my own values. I turn to these puzzles as a way to escape from the current politically-charged and divisive society we now live in. I really don't appreciate him putting these little jabs in something I pay for. Does he really think the only people who buy his books are people who agree with his perspective? This probably wouldn't be an issue for some people, but for me, it's insulting and I don't plan on buying any further volumes.
