Speedball Mid-Fire Glaze, Teal Agate, 16 Ounce Jar for Pottery and Ceramics

I’ve been using this glaze for my pottery pieces and I’m really impressed with the results. It applies smoothly and fires beautifully, giving a consistent, professional-looking finish every time. The color is soft and natural, which I love for creating calming, minimalist pieces. It works well for both dipping and brushing, and I’ve had great success with even coverage and no unexpected surprises in the kiln. The texture and final look add such a nice depth to my work. Overall, this is a reliable, high-quality glaze that I’ll definitely keep stocked in my studio. Perfect for both beginners and experienced potters!

This odd little pot that I made became the tester for my new Speedball glazes. I purchased the Hematite (to replace another brand's Mirror that I didn't like), Dragon Stone and the Blackened Copper. I used all three on this pot. I used 3 fairly heavy coats of the Hematite on the lid and am so thrilled with how it turned out. It didn't run all over everything. In fact, it didn't run at all . And, the texture still shines through. Such a fun glaze. The Blackened copper I used on the outside all over (x3) and the inside (x3). I used the Dragon Stone on the top edge of the pot, but I did continue it down over the Blackened Copper. The Dragon Stone looks great on the ledge, but did run heavily over the copper on the sides of the pot. I like the overall effect, it was just a bit unexpected. The inside of this pot is beautiful! The Blackened Copper turned out exactly as the jar promised. Beautiful satin red and black throughout. On the outside, the results were not as dramatic-mostly a pretty brown made shiny because of the Dragon Stone flowing over it. I am testing another piece with the Blackened Copper outside with nothing on top to see how it behaves. While I love the results of the Blackened Copper, my jar is very runny and smells like rotten eggs. I don't mind if it turns out the results are consistent as promised. I can hold my nose while I glaze. This was my first experience with Speedball pottery glazes-I love them so far!

I absolutely adore this glaze, particularly when used on dark clay bodies. I fired it at cone 6 with a medium ramp and held it there for 10 minutes. The clay I used is Standard Clay Company's grog-free Umbria 266. I applied three even coats with a fan brush.

Pretty color, but does require a heavier application for full coverage and to avoid streaking. Pictured here on Laguna b-mix fired to cone 6 with 3 thicker coats, likely would have been perfect with a 4th or 5th coat

3 thick coats Used on CAC BC6 that fires white and Aardvark Obsidian which fires black. Ignore the bubbling and pitting- almost certainly due to my own lack of experience and not knowing that the “Obsidian” has a lot of organics that require glaze-firing to either cone 5-5.5 max or a slow ramp to cone 6 to allow the volatiles to burn off before vitrification of the glaze traps bubbles in the surface. Layers nicely with the “Snow Drift” and Opal glazes by Speedball, with nice breaks over texture. I am quickly becoming a fan of Ms Souder’s glazes!

Not like the color shown, very disappointing. Of course, color will vary according to clay, but on b-mix, doesn’t look very good.

I was so excited for this glaze for that pretty purple and blue, when I used it for the first time it was very difficult to get on my piece the glaze would dry rapidly and get very chalky in the brush like going between the dip and the piece without any in between. Adding multiple coats was also a challenge, because it gets chalky when you go to add more it does not go on evenly. I did my best to put 3 coats on a slow feeder dog bowl, it fired very different from what I expected, several large white patches without any purple or blue and some that came out pink. I'm trying again with a different piece to give it another chance but overall not the best which made me sad when I liked the color so much.

Arrived well wrapped. Great glaze.
