Bergeon vs Starrett - no contest really...
I've had a set of Starrett flat bladed screwdrivers for some time. I progressed, or thought I did to a set of Bergeon drivers with the fancy swivel stand for £££'s but I find myself using the Starretts more and more often. For some reason I always found it difficult to find replacement Starrett blades in the UK, whereas Bergeon are easier to get. To be honest, the Bergeon aren't up to the rigours of camera repair. I'm fed up of constantly having to tighten the little set screws because the blades are sliding in and out plus the rubber grips are constantly slipping on the hard to grip skinny shafts. I'm not impressed with the cheap feeling plastic swivel either. When I pick up a Starrett, I realise just how good they are. So, I'm going to ditch the other lot and go back to Starrett I think and figure out how to get new blades.

Lost count of how many cheap sets I have had - these are beautifully engineered and I'm sure they'll last a lifetime. Quality item

These are Starrett and probably made in China.
I bought these because I have had a full set of Starrett precision screwdrivers which were made in Sheffield UK and this was printed on the top of the shank to ensure people knew that they were buying Sheffield renowned quality. Not these babies they do not have a 'Made in', anywhere on them. They are totally and utterly second rate to the originals. The knurling is very poor and looks like it has been done with a worn out tool which leaves a very un-tooled finish. The blades as reported by another buyer are dreadful. The ends are completely unsuitable for precision work so not fit for purpose. I had to dress each blade in order to use them. The top swivels are too loose, again not a precision tool. No way could these be put near a watch screw as they are supplied, they would definitely cause damage. My advice is buy a cheap Chinese set they are superior in the fact the cost is around an eighth of the price or look on ebay for an original made in Sheffield set, even if worn they would be better than this trash. What the hell happened to Starrett? I'd appreciate someone telling me where the quality went.I will try and put a picture up of one of my made in Sheffield ones. I don't have many left which is why I bought a new set.In conclusion don't buy them definitely not worth the money.

I've seen better quality...
I purchased this same set of precision screwdrivers elswhere (cheaper @ £55 for the set) because I thought it would be worth investing in quality tools. The market is swamped with very poor quality sets of Chinese manufacture which are totally worthless to the precision engineer or watchmaker, a fact which is probably obvious from their asking price of only a few pounds per set. This Starrett set is a cut above those for sure. The screwdriver bodies use a simple split collet with screw-in collar to retain separate (and thus replaceable) driver shafts, and whilst the finish on the the bodies does not strike me as being particularly high quality it is nevertheless acceptable. However, the finish on the flat blades leaves much to be desired being neither square nor flat nor sharp cornered (and they really MUST possess all these attributes in order to grip the screw head at the bottom of the slot and not slip out or damage the screw slot). Consequently some considerable work with an oilstone or diamond lap is required to turn them into something at least usable. Fortunately the steel used for the blades is tougher than the liquorish found in cheaper sets. The big advantage of course is that new blades - either direct replacements or perhaps tips for special purposes - can readily be made in your own workshop from some decent tool steel, the collets and shafts are one size only (2.5mm) for all tip shapes/sizes accommodated by the bodies, so buying lengths of drill rod in this diameter will give you all the material you need to make replacements. This is worth doing rather than making the whole thing from scratch because the bodies are nicely made and pleasant to use.So I can only offer 3 stars due to the poor finish on the stock blades, at this price point they should be better.
