Explore creativity while learning how to draw lively, unique sketches of your favorite houses, shops, landmarks, and other buildings. Learning to sketch can be intimidating, especially when drawing subjects like architecture that seem to rely on perfect perspective, straight lines, and complex forms. In Housesketching, artist and instructor Albert Kiefer (Housesketcher) shares his signature techniques that will enable and empower you to abandon perfectionism and learn to sketch and express yourself creatively , like his tens of thousands of students have done. Whether you work in pen and ink and alcohol markers like Albert, or use your favorite medium, you will learn how to create amazingly expressive drawings. From his whimsical linework to his playful use of perspective to his energetic colorwork, Albert’s approach can be applied to any type or style of building —or any subject at all! Housesketching shows how to go beyond representation to create sketches that are evocative, vibrant, and completely unique. With this encouraging guide, you will learn how to: Find inspiration and choose subjects to sketch—either en plein air or from photos Compose your sketch with placement, contrast, techniques for guiding the eye, and balance Use perspective—but only as much as you need to know!—to create a convincing sketch Make a sketch your own through editing, exaggeration, point of view, and creating a back story Use color and details to finish and embellish your sketches Share your sketches online Fifteen step-by-step projects take you through Albert’s process in detail, so you can sketch alongside him and learn what makes his drawings so dynamic. Whether you’re completely new to sketching, interested in learning to sketch architecture, or looking to draw more expressively and creatively, Housesketching will give you all the tools, inspiration, and encouragement you need . Review: Inspiring and fun - Inspires me to draw. I love the author’s style and it’s been fun to replicate it. He gives just enough instruction so the projects feel doable. His squiggly style takes the pressure off and dials down my perfectionistic tendencies. Review: A must-have for any aspiring artist - The book is outstanding and its usefulness extends well beyond the topic of house sketching. The explanations are clear, comprehensive, yet concise. The principles that Kiefer presents can easily be transferred to other subjects and other media (e.g water color painting). The way he writes, you can almost hear him sitting next to you as you’re working, gently encouraging you along the way. Whether you’re a beginner or a more seasoned artist, this book has something for everyone, be it loads of useful tips or a heap of genuine inspiration.

Rediscovering the Joy of Drawing
I recently purchased a book by Albert Kiefer, and I couldn't be happier with my decision! I first discovered Albert through his course on Domestika back in 2022, and I was absolutely blown away. For most of my life, I believed I couldn't draw, but Albert's simple lessons gave me the confidence to believe that even I could create art! After completing his course, I set a goal to draw every day. I even went out and took about 30 photos of different houses in my hometown to use as inspiration. Unfortunately, a sudden move to another country disrupted my plans, and I only managed to draw four houses. Despite the setback, I have a strong desire to return to this fantastic hobby because it truly inspires me. I bought Albert's book not only to support my favorite artist but also in the hope that it would reignite my motivation to draw—and it absolutely did! I was so engrossed in the book yesterday, and it has filled me with excitement. Although I plan to draw on a tablet instead of paper (the CTRL+Z function saves me from the fear of making irreversible mistakes), I can't wait to dive back into drawing. Albert, thank you for this amazing book and for teaching me how to draw!

Organized & helpful book by the master of loose urban sketching
I like how Alber Keifer’s artwork comes to life. It was discovering his work that actually inspired me to give this type of art form a try, (having not done anything creative for my entire (long) adult life). And now I am knee-deep in alcohol markers & sketch pads. To get me started, I watched loads of online videos on how to do Keifer’s style of loose urban sketching, including several by the master ‘Housesketcher’ himself. But I was still finding the coloring and ‘looseness” difficult, (it seems more natural to be slow and meticulous). So I bought the e-book to try to get more insight. Plus, I was happy to support the author through the purchase, given the number of his free videos that I have watched. It was a quick read, and it was well organized. He goes through the different things to consider and his step-wise process with different examples. I don’t think that there was anything novel in it, but it is all compact in one place, so it will save you lots of time if you don’t have the patience for all the video-watching. I like having it to skim through as a refresher resource as well. At the end of the day, I am still finding using markers and the ‘looseness” difficult. However, with practice, learning what works and what doesn’t work, I think I might be slowly improving!

Finally! No ruler needed!
This book is so inspiring! It breaks the limitations of needing to be precise with measurements and perfection. It helps you throw caution to the wind and simply draw what you envision, creating something absolutely beautiful as the end result. I highly recommend this book!

Terrific book on sketching whimsical and semi-realistic houses!
Informative, inspirational, amazing, beguiling, I shall run out of descriptions! Its just what I hoped for, whimsical houses that can be created from almost any building, regardless of how splendid or unattractive they are at first glance. The author passes on his technique, from perspective through to all the gorgeous little tweaks you can make to make a dull subject attractive, appealing and full of mystery. The author uses Copics and W & N pens and gives the colours. He also sets out the steps he uses to create his lovely little sketches so there is no mistaking how its done. Its easily adapted to acrylic paints or watercolours or coloured pencils and the colours are really only suggestions. I suspect most of us will have our own interpretations of some of the subject matter, depending on where we live and are from, and our past experiences. Its something we can do with sketchbooks while we are out and about, as well as from photos or Google Streetview (which we can use without copyright problems), or simply our imagination. This book will give a good grounding in how to create and embellish buildings to paint or sketch our own flashes of whimsy. It might not be accurate enough for a real estate agent's window, but its going to give us and others a of pleasure, and bring back memories of holidays past, or an unusual take on a well-known land-mark. Well worth the asking price and I would suggest the print copy unless you use the Kindle app on a computer or mobile so you can see the colours, though that has the advantage of enlarging the images to see the details! This is one book I'm seriously considering in both formats.

Empfehlenswert.
