Super flexible solar panel/power bank kit!
The media could not be loaded. I've added some photos/video from a music festival I went to this summer. You can see the sky was a little cloudy but it was still enough to generate plenty of power!First of all, let me explain my use case for this. I love camping, music festivals, and backpacking, but I also love tech and gadgets so I usually take several electronic devices with me, even into the back country. Aside from phone and watch, I bring cameras (I have a YouTube channel), radios (I hold a Ham license), and sometimes a sound recorder as well. All of these need power - which brings us to this piece of Kit!There are two USB-A ports which will power most of your devices. I measured the standard 5 volts on USB using a multimeter and a sacrificed USB cable. If you want a fast charge on an iPad there's a USB-C on there as well, I just wasn't able to test the voltage because I didn't want to sacrifice a pricy USB-C. Interestingly there are also multiple ways to charge the power bank itself as well - aside from the inbuilt solar panel you can charge it via micro-USB (which I expected) OR additionally by lightning cable if you have an iPhone (which was very unexpected but welcome)! Additionally the detachable solar panels supplement the attached panel either through USB or just by magnetically attaching the panels to the power bank. There are two tiny connections that match up when properly aligned. While backpacking I was able to charge the power bank with the included solar panel setup while simultaneously charging my phone, a personal fan, and watch all at the same time. Superb. If you had a fourth device, the detachable solar panels also have a USB-A out you can use, though the voltage will naturally depend on how much sun is available.I have a few dual-band VHF/UHF radios that charged just fine off of the power bank (note to radio manufacturers, nobody wants to use cradles anymore!). Larger HF radios draw too much power to use this BUT my (tr)uSDX was able to send CW at .5 watts using the USB power and didn't seem to drain much of the power bank at all! Finally I guess I would also mention that the solar panel portion is a really good size for maximizing solar generation without needing a very wide panel. I have other panels which are very awkward to hang off of a backpack or tree, or even place on a table without taking up a ton of real estate. The whole kit is well designed to work together in a compact way and I appreciate that when backpacking, but it also works well for festivals and whatever else you do outside!
