Q: how does it measure current? is there cts'? aslo can it be installed without de-energizing the load?

There are current clamps for every leg as well as gator clip probes for every leg N and ground (I think there is also a current clamp for N but I don't have it in front of me.) There is no problem hooking it all up live as long as you are careful. I've never had a problem.

Q: Does it comes with wi-fi capabilities for remote data analysis?

No, it does not have that capability.

Q: will it work with linux?

Q: What is the maximum wire diameter the current clamp will fit on?

While I cannot say for sure what the maximum wire size is that the current clamp would fit on, it will certainly fit on any wire sized per NEC to carry the allowable amperage that the DL 160 is max rated to measure. Any larger wire sizes would most likely be in an installation subject to more amps than that max rating, possibly damaging the device(s) if deployed to same. Only exception I can think of is where the allowable amps would be within limits and still encounter a larger than normal but then also a much longer wire would be in use to allow for voltage drop.
