Straightforward. Nice review for an economics student looking to get into finance

Good elementary book for beginning investors.

Works well as a introductory read or a refresher.

This is like a history textbook and talks about stuff from the past which really isn’t important. The writer assumes you know about a lot of terms in the book. The actual explanation of terms are VERY poorly written as they don’t give you an exact definition, rather a confusing mess which leaves you wondering what in the world you just read. I had to re-read many paragraphs because I was trying to see if there were certain concepts I didn’t grasp but nope, the information provided just wasn’t achieving anything useful. In my opinion, you’re better off getting a different book or just watching videos

This book read like a dictionary.

Written in easy language so that any beginner can understand why each financial market exists and how it functions.

If you are interested in how world finances work and want to know a bit about how the markets work before beginning to invest, this is the book for you. It takes you through all the "systems" from simple shares, foreign exchange markets (forex), bonds and more complex things like futures and CFD's, allowing you to at least speak with your financial advisor with looking like a complete Ass!!

The book gives you a complete view over the different types of financial markets (foreign currencies, money markets, bonds, equities, futures and options, and a few more) and also a bit of historical context on how and why they were created. I started reading this book because I wanted to learn about markets other than the stock market and I'm not disappointed. Even if you know about this subject it is a nice book to have around for a quick check of something you forgot.
