Ardell Beauty Stroke a Brow Feathering Pen, Taupe

I will start off by saying that I have fairly dense brows and probably don’t use it for it’s intended purposes. I heard of this brow product by an Instagram beauty influencer by the handle of Katie Jane Hughes. She has very sparse brow hairs and builds a whole look with pens like this. For a very long time she swore by Ardell brow pens as her go to, fill her collaboration with Glossier. For a very long time she created brows that were extremely realistic with these pens which was why I made the purchase of them. As I have aged, my brow hairs have become lighter while my natural roots have stayed a taupe blonde. I use both medium brown and taupe to create dimension and a natural appearance of color and shading in my brows so they don’t look drawn on. I am not the most artistic when it comes drawing or anything, so to create brow hair like strokes, I really needed to sit down and practice a little. Luckily these pens aren’t a wallet buster so I was able to practice without blowing through cash doing it. The downside about these pens that I knew in advance from the influencer I mentioned above, is to order a couple at a time because they do lose product fairly fast before the tip re-saturates again with pigment. Based on her recommendation of the pens, I do store them lid/tip down standing up in my makeup organizer ( one of the deeper slots where they can stay put). This item works Best with a super clean brow surface. So avoiding moisturizer before brows is a big thing for me, and I also clean them with a toner before application to make sure the pigment has the best application and longevity. There are times I’ll do them at night before bed so I don’t have to do them in the morning. The reason I do this, is when the pens are new, the color and application can be slightly aggressive. Sleeping in just the brow makeup lets them feather very slightly over night to wake up to a much more natural look in the morning. But yes. Get a couple of the pens in your color so you don’t run out. Store tip side down to get the most life out of the pen. I am a natural blonde. Taupe works well for me as my base color. It does not have near as much red tone as other pens/brands do which is why I keep coming back to this one. My secondary color is medium brown. I personally add just a few gentle strokes to add dimension to the brows so it’s not so uniform in color looking. But that’s just my own personal preference.

I have tried so many brow stamps and pens trying to get the right color for my ash blonde hair. Every taupe is either too dark or it turns green (and not just a faint green either, almost fluorescent). All the blondes I try are either too red or orange, or are just some horrible yellowy-green combination that is not attractive. Yes, the pen gets dry after doing one eyebrow, but all you have to do is get two of them. Even better, is that it takes a little bit of rubbing to get it off so I know it's not just going to come off at any touch. I'm really excited about this!

I ordered this because I received the same one in a boxycharm box. The color they sent was way too dark but it worked decently well, so I went in search for a well priced, lighter color. The pen I ordered was so light, I could barely see it on my very, very light skin. I've never used an eyebrow product that was so light in color that it didn't even really show up. The product comes out in the first stroke (which is barely seen at all) and then it's a battle to get it to come out at all. I know to store it brush side down so it isn't due to that. All in all, it was useless to me.

The Ardell Stroke A Brow Pen has been a god send as I recover from 5 months of chemo. I have lost ALL of my brow hairs. This is the only product that gives me the appearance of natural brow hairs, even though there’s not even 1 real hair left. The only thing I dislike is that it leaves my ‘brows’ somewhat shiny and have to pat them with a bit of powder to make them less shiny. The pen is nice and thin, and with a gentle hand, creates realistic brow hairs. STORE UPSIDE DOWN IN A CUP TO PREVENT IT FROM DRYING OUT. I’ve had my pens for 3 months and none have dried out yet. Taupe is not too dark on me! I have ash blond hair. Most brow formulas are super dark on me. This one is a shade darker than my natural hair and very flattering.The liquid color does not refill as you use it… only upon sitting upside down. This means I need to do one brow then wait wait wait (usually do eye makeup) then come back to the second brow. I’m pretty sure one of these days I’m going to make it somewhere and realize I forgot to go back to my second brow. 🤪I store upside down. This is a must for product to get to the applicator brush. Tapping doesn’t bring product down. Shaking does but the product goes everywhere so that is not an option.

This works best for me to get the most natural look. Only problem is the product runs out quickly, so expensive for the amount you get.

I bought them a few times hoping for consistency. I like them when the ink flows. Now I have received too many with barely any ink, I am sad to say.

I really wish this was more consistent. It’s a great product when it works but sometimes the brush doesn’t fill with the color solution and it takes a lot of banging and shaking and fussing to get it to fill the brush. Maybe a design flaw? Otherwise when it works it looks super natural and the color is perfect.

My eyebrows are not good due to over plucking over the years. This pen , because of the colour and fine nib, completely changes my brow, leaving them looking natural.
