Points may not close fast enough at higher RPM
I replaced the points in my distributor and couldn't get the car to rev. I finally traced the issue to a dwell that decreased as RPM increased. A likely cause of such a symptom is that the points don't close quickly enough at higher RPM--due to not enough spring pressure or some other trouble. The dwell angle is large when points are too far apart, smaller when they're too close. It shouldn't change with RPM though. To be fair, I have read good things about this brand, and it's certainly possible there is some other problem under the distributor cap that I can't find. I installed an electronic ignition and have had no trouble since.
