thoughtful and honest
I have two sons who were both diagnosed with fragile x syndrome last year. This book is the first parent story I've read that I can fully relate to. It was encouraging and helpful. She took the time to share her story but also gave real substantial tips for managing day to day. Every new fx family should read this!

Honest, Heartfelt AND Helpful
I just finished reading Cindi's book. Our family stayed with the Rodgers when our twin sons were four years old. One was diagnosed with Fragile X, the other with developmental delays, so we brought both sons to be evaluated at Dr. Randi Hagerman's clinic. Our stay with the Rodgers left a tremendous impression on me. During that one short visit, we were struck by Cindi and Chris's warmth and their dedication to family life, and also their open hearts and home, and desire to share the Fragile X journey with us and with others. So it was with great delight when I discovered recently she wrote a book and even more delighted but not surprised that the book would be filled with honesty and love. One of Cindi's gifts is her ability to share her own unique and specific experiences in such a way that even while our own family is very different, I could relate to each and every page. Needless to say I devoured this book. It reflects the beautiful arc of how Cindi and Chris together built their altered lives with and for their sons - and how their RV named Rocket became a very special member of their family, even a kind of neighborhood. Rocket has given thema way to be more a part of the neighborhood (if I may use Mr. Rodger's language). Rocket was and still is a way this this family could expand their world through travel; as a way to share times with times in the community - when her sons couldn't handle certain environments, Rocketdrove to those environments and provided a safe enclosed space; as a way to teach other Fragile X families in the Fragile X neighborhoodand Rocket will ultimately be a refuge for retirement for Cindi and Chris in their own driveway as they gift their home to Jake and Joe.

Something for Everyone!!
As a professional in the field of disabilities since 1987 and as a parent of a 7 year old son with Fragile X, this book inspired me in many ways. Becoming Mrs. Rogers has something for every reader as it covers the life and journey of Cindi and Chris Rogers and their sons Jake and Joe. This book is a must read for all parents of children with Fragile X but also for all parents whose children may face lifelong challenges. Professionals in the field of disabilities will gain great insight into what families deal with and how they can support family needs. Cindi gives families and professionals great tools on how support persons with Fragile X. Cindi's open and personal style of writing is easy to follow and fun to read. Because the book is so well written, people who have nothing to do with Fragile X will also enjoy it because of the inspirational love story found between the covers. The book made me laugh, it made me think, it gave me tools, and it moved me to tears. I could not ask for more from a book!

A must read!
What an amazing resource for anyone who interacts with a child with special needs, especially one affected by fragile X syndrome. Even though fragile X is a spectrum disorder, there is absolutely something for everyone here. Reading about the Rogers' journey of trials and tribulations certainly rings a bell with me. My own son is affected by FXS, and the early chapters brought me to tears as it was close in many ways to our own lives pre-diagnosis and the early days post-diagnosis. I especially love reading about the various techniques described to help children with fragile X adjust to living in a less-than-FX-friendly world. My son has already benefited from the side-dialogue, and the ready-not-ready techniques. Hands down, this book is a must have! Not only did we purchase a copy for ourselves, but one for my mother, my mother-in-law, and my son's preschool teacher. Not only is Cindi an amazing mom and woman, but an innovative pioneer who has brought much success and happiness into her boys' lives. Here, she shares that vision, and the methods that worked for her family in this very special book.

A must read for any family living with fragile X syndrome!
Becoming Mrs. Rogers is the story of one family's navigation through the world of Fragile X Syndrome. Cindi walks you through their life pre-diagnosis and into the survival mode that happens upon receiving a diagnosis such as this. You grieve with her as she talks about learning a new way of doing things, letting go of expectations she had for her life as a parent, and finally see the emergence of a family not just living with but thriving and enjoying a life that while not what was dreamed of, one that is still beautiful. The Rogers family story brings HOPE to anyone living with a Fragile X diagnosis and then goes one step farther and walks you through her "toolbox" she used and continues to use along her journey. This book is a must have for not just families living with Fragile X Syndrome, but for anyone working with them as well. As a parent of two children with Fragile X Syndrome, I have already begun putting some of the tools to use and plan to implement many more.

It takes a conscious decision to stop seeing only the disability and comparing our children to all the "normal" ones.
Cindi Rogers has some of the most thoughtful, innovative ideas for communicating with and making life simpler and more pleasurable for people with special needs. A little while after her sons' diagnosis with Fragile X Syndrome, she made a decision to spend their time and energy ensuring that the boys had happy, productive, worthwhile lives. This might sound like a no-brainier, but so many of us with children with special needs spend all our time trying to make them "normal." We are so wrapped up in helping them to be like every other kid, we forget what's really important; their happiness. It takes a conscious decision to stop seeing only the disability and comparing our children to all the "normal" ones. This is what I admire most about Cindi. This, I confess, is something I'm still working on. Cindi inspires me to see my own sons with special needs as perfect, just the way they are!

Family, knowledge and comfort
This was the first book I read after hearing my son was being tested for fragile X syndrome, our doctor said “she was 100% certain it was FX” so I researched and found Cindi. This book has helped me so much over the years since I bought it in 2017 and it being now 2022.I have gone back to this book for inspiration and just sometimes for the need of comfort. It’s very honest and open about their families journey with FX. You will fall in love with Jake and Joe many times over, each time u read the book.I haven’t wrote my review any sooner because I didn’t know what to write, I was still on my journey of acceptance of having 2 boys with FX but today I find I have the words. If u want an insight to the fragile X syndrome world have a read of this fantastic book.Big thumbs up from here in the UK.

A must read!
This book is like having a conversation with Cindi herself. As the parent of a son with fragile X syndrome this book has given me ideas, tools, strategies to use in our daily life but as well as all that it has given me perspective, hope and reassurance. Cindi answered a lot of the questions that I have wanted someone to ask for a long time. She does this with a positive attitude, a realistic approach and a hug of reassurance. This is a must read for teachers, parents, anyone interested in communicating with their children better and anyone who wants a realistic view inside the life of a family with a special needs child. Go and buy it, you won't regret it.
