I think it requires consistent use on a frequent basis to truly provide benefit. Figuring out how to turn it on and keep it running does take a bit of a learning curve, but it’s easy to use after that. I bought one for my husband too. It’s definitely better than taking too much ibuprofen. I do wish they made smaller ones that wrapped around smaller joints like elbows.
