NEW-Becoming

Very interesting. I lost the library book I took out & replaced it by submitting this book. I'll find the book eventually & it will be my copy.

Thought I was buying a NEW book but instead it had fingerprints on the inside pages, bent spine, and a hair in between pages in the middle of the book. Stains on a couple of pages. Don't advertise NEW if it isn't! The book did arrive on time as scheduled.

Reading Becoming felt like I was sitting by a campfire and listening to her (Michelle Obama) tell me a story. I was hooked on every twist and turn. I could not wait to find out what happened next. The story was told from her point of view. The way she would describe things, I would feel like I’m actually there seeing everything that she was describing. Each character and setting were introduced as if I were watching a sitcom, with a reason and purpose behind it. The book’s structure and tone were very effective in conveying the story. The book was essentially structured in three sections: Becoming Me (her childhood and her journey in figuring who she was), Becoming Us (meeting Barack Obama, starting a family and Obama’s political career), and Becoming More (becoming the first family of the U.S and what came after). The structure was very clear and easy to follow while the tone reminded me fondly of my grandmother when she used to tell me stories about her life. The language sometimes could be hard to understand because Mrs. Obama had a bigger vocabulary than I did but that’s neither here nor there. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I loved learning about the behind the scenes to being the First Family in the United States, her childhood, and the steps it took to become Michelle Obama.

Poorly written, just a bad book!
