Fantastic penultimate Omnibus. Without revealing plot lines there is a sense of where Ogami Itto's path with his Son Daigoro is leading. The reason this series of Lone Wolf & Cub is so highly regarded is the strength of the storylines & the bond between Father & Son . Not to mention the atmospheric artwork by Goseki Kojima. If you have only just started in these Omnibus editions keep going to the end! You won't regret it!

For the longest time, this edition of Lone Wolf and Cub Omnibus was out of print. So if you wanted to read the entire series you either had to track down the regular editions contained within it or find digital copies. If you have a nice first edition copy it is probably worth more than than the cover price. I own all 12 editions of the omnibus and I enjoyed all of them thoroughly. The Lone Wolf and Cub movies are also great to watch and the Shogun Assassin movie has been showcased in Kill Bill Volume 2 and sampled in Genius/GZA Liquid Swords, although the original Lone Wolf and Cub movies never ventured this far into the manga volumes.

This is another incredible volume as the story of a former assassin and his son draws toward it inevitable conclusion in the next volume. This volume is given over to plans and schemes, as Ogami Itto has recovered from his battle with Yagyu Resudo. The battle ended with no victor (other events forced the battle to be postponed). Yagyu has been summoned to his master’s castle, a victim of his own scheming and plots by an enemy. It’s amazing to watch this story unfold - a different land and wildly different customs, but in many ways, so admirable. Add in amazing art and you have a classic - all the volumes in the series are highly recommended!

Kai the poisoner worms his way into the story, in a delightful twist that adds a final new dimension to the story. Itto Ogami is too honorable to expose the Yagyu letter (after going to such lengths to get it). But the readers want to know what it contains, so enter Kai the official food taster of the Shogun. An ordinary man with matchless ambition, Kai has no Bushido code guiding him, just a lust for power (among other things). In this way we get to see how the Yagyu assassins control a nation, while Itto and Retsudo get to keep their feud honorable and personal. Seeing this story in the new larger Omnibus format is a real treat, the ugly Abe-no-kaii has never looked better! The lush artwork of the series really shines through in this volume, finally we can see Long Wolf and Cub as it was meant to be enjoyed.
