Great movie.
I saw this at the cinema back in the day. Thought it was 1 of Eastwood's better flicks. Had it on dvd & noticed a few minor cuts in it. Blu Ray is the version I remember. Enjoyed watching it again.

IMPORT PLAYS EASILY (GRAT WATCH)
Must admit to being a fan of Clint Eastwood movies down the years including those he hasdirected rather than starred in.The 4k upgrade of the movie does give the viewing experience a sharper feel as opposed tothe Blu-ray release of days gone by, though, as is often the case with pre-00 movies the scenesthat include distance i.e 'The Sky' do appear grainy. This tells the tale of how veteran Secret-Service agent Frank Horrigan attempting to protect thecurrent president from an emerging threat returns after many years to escort duty (he'd beenon duty years before when JFK was gunned down)Frank is assisted by his young partner Agent Al D'Andrea (Dylan McDermott) who often questionedhis commitment to being up to the task. After a period of investigation coupled with direct calls to Frank from James Carney / Booth (JohnMalkovich) was the suspect a master of disguise who had felt hard done by by events of the past, singled out/identified.A game of cat and mouse follows in this intently captivating and exciting movie. Will Frank's effort and determination save the president?Rene Russo as Secret Service Agent Lilly Raines is the romantic interest for Frank.A really good movie to view or even re-watch in which Clint excels and John Malkovich is asalways brilliant. (Often playing a dark role as he does in this)

He Sets Out To Fix What He Can't
Clint Eastwood is ageing Secret Service Agent Frank Horrigan - a guy who still holds bad memories when John F Kennedy was assassinated. He feels he let everyone down that day, but when a young man calling himself Mitch Leary announces he wants to kill the current president, Frank makes himself available and tries everything to stop history repeating. This is a good film, well told by Jeff Maguire and well directed by Wolfgang Petersen, better known for his work on The Perfect Storm and Air Force One , and has worked with Hollywood's elite for quite some time now. This film flows well, and is in no hurry to tell the story, which is nice. Plus Clint Eastwood is a legend, everything he does is successful and his powerful presence in front or behind the camera has always been well received. Renee Russo is also good in this, but top marks has to go to John Malkovich who I feel has been far underrated in the Hollywood system for too long. Ripley's Game has to be one of his best. This Blu-Ray is good - full BD50 disk with a decent bitrate, and the colours are wonderful and remind me of when I saw this at the cinema. The audio is punchy and clear and worth checking out if you love this film. Bit disappointed with the extras as they're still in SD, really this could have done with an upscale. Really I would only suggest this BD to people who love this movie and must see it in HD, as this is a splendid transfer, it's vibrant and does justice to the original.Rent if you don't know this movie, buy if you're a big fan.

Think, Frank. Think. The same government that trained me to kill trained you to protect.
In the Line of Fire is directed by Wolfgang Petersen and written by Jeff Maguire. It stars Clint Eastwood, John Malkovich, Rene Russo and Dylan McDermott. Music is scored by Ennio Morricone and cinematography by John Bailey.Veteran Secret Service agent Frank Horrigan (Eastwood) is pulled back into President protection duty when a deadly assassin, Mitch Leary (Malkovich), surfaces and announces his intention to kill the current incumbent of the Whitehouse. But Frank is feeling his age and he is haunted by his failure to stop the assassination of John F. Kennedy; and Leary knows this and uses it to toy with Horrigan's mindset.Good old fashioned thriller that we could do with more of these days, In the Line of Fire is a classic cat-and-mouse plot elevated to greater heights by Eastwood and Malkovich. Horrigan, a bastion of good with a determination to succeed and once again prove his worth, Leary, troubled but cunning and clever, it's a mental face off and the prize is not just the Presidents life, but also redemption. The script is sharp and the film hits its straps when Horrigan and Malkovich are in conversation, they have a definite link to each other, a common ground, even if Horrigan refuses to accept it. The writing shows intelligence and worth, with a Leary back story making him a scary uber villain. Russo always engages as fellow Secret Service Agent, Lilly Raines, her tender scenes with Eastwood well acted, while McDermott scores well but his character is one that features all too many times in cop/agent thrillers.Eastwood enjoys himself because he is asked to play himself, and the film is better for it, Malkovich, once again, proves he has few peers when it comes to playing off the chain baddies. 8/10
