Entertaining page turner
This is a well written complex story. It continues character development, especially for Manuelito, least amount for Chee. It does set a backdrop for the next book or books in the series.

Desert stars
The atmosphere the characters and the plot development. Great story! You can almost smell the cold desert air and the stars look so close in the desert sky.

Great read
Have not finished the book yet only up to chapter 15 but am hooked.Nice thing about Anne Hillerman is she goes into day to day detail and her writing is getting better with each book. Previous book she had two different paths through most of the book and then they converged. Same with this story.Great author and getting better.

A great tribute to the characters of Tony Hillerman
A seamless continuation of the characters that came to life with Anne Hillerman's father Tony Hillerman. It was nice to interact with Leaphorn, Chee, Manuelito and Largo. A great depiction of the vast Navajo Nation in all its beauty. As with all the books in this series it can be read as a stand alone. Woven together into a police mystery and thriller, the book takes us on a tour of the great southwest of the United States. If you enjoyed it go back and start with the first book in the series by Tony Hillerman. I classify this series as easy reading to learn and enjoy.

To me, this is Anne Hillerman's BEST novel so far!
I have read every Tony Hillerman Navajo mystery, AND I have also read every more recent one written by his daughter, Anne Hillerman. When I opened her first book, I was a bit skeptical. How could she match her Dad's ability to "tell a good story" and to develop a plot that makes one want to try to solve the crime him/herself and one that is detailed, with good character development, and which contains enough "side plots' to keep you thinking: "Is this point mportant? Does it relate to the main story or not? Although she doesn't spend as much time and as many pages describing the physical setting of her mysteries, I think she concentrates more on character development and has them facing real world problems as well as the mystery at hand. I like that she has continued to involve Leaphorn and Chee, but I especially like her development of Bernie Manuelito as a main character. This brings new life to this continuing series. All of her previous Navajo detective novels have been very good, BUT I think THIS ONE IS THE BEST so far! It has lots of action, subtle hints, twists and turns, false leads, and a new location in New Mexico in which it all takes place. I love a mystery where every detail, every word, every seemingly insignificant happening must be remembered for any significance it has later on in the book. I even found myself looking back and rereading a few parts to be sure I had picked up on a point that had become important. My test of a good book is NOT one that one can't put down BUT one that you just don't want to finish too soon because you are enjoying it too much! STARGAZER is that kind of book! I was very happy with this new book and believe it rivals any that her Dad wrote in keeping one turning the pages and always thinking. The fact that I love New Mexico doesn't hurt any either! I lived there for a while and return as often as I can. Books about New Mexico are always on my radar, and I'll keep reading Anne Hillerman's Navajo mysteries as long as she continues to write them......which I hope is for a LONG TIME! It helps to have read the earlier entries in her series to fully understand and know the characters, but the mystery is "stand alone", and the characters aren't hard to get up to speed with. GREAT NOVEL, ANNE.....YOUR BEST SO FAR (at least I THINK so)!

Worthy of the Hillerman name
I love the glimpse of Navajo life. MS Hillerman has continued to expand the characters created by her father. Just as his books made me want to learn more about the Navajo Nation, her books have stirred those desires

Eine typische Hillerman-Geschichte.
Ich besitze alle Romane von Tony und seiner Tochter. Als Altamerikanist und Kenner des Südwestens freue ich mich über jeden neuen Roman.

One of her best
Anne Hillerman continues the story of Manuelito, Chee and Leaphorn. The foibles and strengths of the characters make them even more endearing. I can’t wait for the next book. May Anne Hillerman carry on her father’s legacy for a long time to come.
