A fitting bookend to the trilogy. Well worth a look.
This isn't shakespeare but if you are considering this film then you won't be looking for anything like that anyway. However, as far as horror films - and the Insidious franchise - go, this is a lot better than expected and a fitting bookend to the trilogy.I really enjoyed the first Insidious - the lipstick face demon appearing over a certain character's shoulder is one of the scariest scenes in recent horror history. Although, the film did tail off towards the end, it was still fantastic and paved the way for a revival in well made, well directed and well scripted horror - think 'Sinister' and 'The Conjuring'. Yet, Insidious 2 left me feeling disappointed, cheated and with a feeling that 'cash-in' was the main motive for the sequel. I'm happy to say that Insidious 3 is a return to form.*No spoilers here* I'm not going to give a blurb of the story but simply say that its ok, makes sense and introduces new and old characters well. The setting of an apartment building is a welcome change and the 'new' family help make the film feel fresh and interesting - yet focusing on Elise from the first two films still enables us to identify with past elements of the franchise. Overall, the story is fine - though it does suffer from sentimentality towards the end - and is far superior to Insidious 2.What about the scares? Is it worth your time and money? What the first film did really well was to to create an atmosphere, and main antagonist, ripe for scares...Insidious 3 does not disappoint. The combination of direction and music - something that these films nail with every retro 70's note - help the film to deliver non cheap, well crafted and genuine moments of unease, fear and fright - I'm not too manly to confess that I jumped out of my skin and screamed on many occasions. The main 'monster' - I'll dub him 'The Breathing Man' - is very well done, from his eerie waving at the start of the film, to his more up-close and personal set pieces, he is a well realised and intense antagonist that never gets silly or over the top.Overall, this is an enjoyable horror film that is well directed, well written and well paced. It's not up there with The Shinning or The Exorcist, nor is it better than The Conjuring or Sinister. However, it is more than a good companion to the first in the franchise and 100 times better than the second (have you guessed I don't like it?). If you like any of the films I've referenced and want to watch a well crafted horror story with scares aplenty, I highly recommend you give this film a watch.

Totally awesome scarefest....I am genuinely impressed !!!!!!!
When I heard that they were bringing out Chapter 3, I was really excited, as I am a big fan of the Insidious franchise. Although I was disappointed that Kevin Wan had no further direct involvement in the films, Leigh Whannell his successor has, I am pleased to say carried on Insidious in all its gory glory. He really does understand the way this unique brand of Supernatural Horror works. The script and cinematography of the first 2 films is matched in Chapter 3. Nothing is lost.As a prequel, it explains more of the back story surrounding Psychic Medium Elise Rainer and Paranormal Investigators Specs and Tucker....not to mention more about the dark spirits which surround our unsung heroes. I was surprised to see Dermott Mulroney in the male lead - you'd expect him to be a fish out of water, however he actually does a good job as the emotionally strained, angst ridden father suffering the loss of his wife to Cancer. I won't go into to too much detail over the storyline - I just thought his performance stood out - as he is not known for this genre and was worth mentioning, as I had initially had qualms about his involvement. The scares are awesome in this movie ;-) I was actually jumping quite a bit - and at one point let out a scream!!You might be thinking that I am a big wuss, I can assure that is not the case. I am consistently searching for films that deliver on jump scares, tension and un-gratuitous gore, which is a class of supernatural horror that is sadly hard to find these days. The writers/directors of the Insidious Franchise understand my brand of horror....maybe it will become yours too....or maybe it already is. My point being this film for me was not in anyway a disappointment and I hope they make many more chapters ;-)

Rather good
A good third edition of the films the director has done a fine piece of work, if you have not seen the first two then this is the the one that will make you wish to see them, what I myself like about these films is the sense of the feeling you don't know what is coming next much like the old terror movies like Hammer horror used to make because I class this this as a terror movie not an horror movie there is more suspense than just plain gore which as good as some of them are I just do not find them very god some times there are exceptions ofcaurse like Cradle of Fear but as some of the others like Saw or Final Desternation theres no plot it's just scene after scene of mindless guts and gore. I think any fan of the old suspense haunted house kind of movies will like this one ok I don't think it will win any oscars for acting but thats not the point as we are nearly on time for halloween and there will be sod all on television if like there was last year ( I'm talking british tv let's face it if you want to enjoy halloween you need to be american they have a much better time than us over it now, I've got a calender here that has not even got the bloody date right got it down as the 30th it's 31st till November 1st ) anyway my point here is just get this film you will like it.
