We just purchased a wood top island and I was terrified of messing the paint up. These are perfect! They’re great for saucepans and if I have bigger things such as casserole dish, I just put 2 down.

Hot plates
I was looking for a material base other than using a coffee coasters and found these for my kitchen table which has a thick plastic layer. This will prevent yellowing stain from hot plate. I like the variety of designs and colors. Couldn’t find them in stores, you’ll find them up on Amazon.
