Replaced blade style Beach machine
disclosure: design engineer review :)We broke a blade style $30 Hamilton Beach machine and replaced it with this much more expensive burr style device. The Capresso is much quieter primarily due to the method of grinding. I feel the grind is very uniform and less 'pulverized'. This leads to a more consistent and even flavor. The induction bin has a cone bottom which is more ideal than other designs. It has a shelf over the opening to prevent rejected beans from popping up... nice. The output bin is fits well in the main housing with retention features that make it reasonably easy to get out. It can be rinsed out and dried without wiping (so far). I can even tap it virtually clean without water. The output bin edges can be a bit hard to grab (and remove) while the bin is in the main unit, but it's not something unbearable. The timer seems to work, albeit with some variation in the exact time even with identical settings. The mechanical dial timer is a bit 'loose' feeling, probably due to some combination of the knob and the internal workings of the timer. I haven't tried to run out the timer when the bean bin is empty, though outher reviews strongly recommend not doing that. Based on the timer feel, that's probably a good suggestion. The induction bin position relative to the base is used to set the grind fineness. The housing granularity markings are accurate to our understanding of drip versus espresso, etc.Longevity of the device is not likely to be a concern for us as we use the machine less than once a day, but at least a few times per week.Final thoughts. The housing silver looks okay but it's not inspiring as far as quality. I deal with products that people look at every day and there is room for improvement for the markings, housing look and timer.

Well made, and provides a tastier cup of coffee!
Does a great job of grinding your beans uniformly. I previously bought a cheap burr grinder that didn't provide a uniform grind, so even though this cost over twice as much as the cheap one, it's worth it. The burrs are nicely machined and look very durable. It's very easy to use, and I love that I can choose either a coarser grind for my home coffee pot with a gold tone filter, or a medium-fine grind for my little drip machine at work. It's also way quieter than my old blade grinder, which is a huge plus since I often grind early in the morning before my family is up. Many have complained it's messy, and yeah, cleanup is more involved than with a blade grinder. But here's what I do to keep the mess to a minimum:1) After grinding, remove the ground coffee container, then remove the bean container and upper burr.2) Hold the upper burr over the ground coffee container and brush the grounds off the burr into the ground coffee container with the little brush provided.3) Put the ground coffee container back in the machine, and brush the grounds off the lower burr.4) Tip the grinder forward a bit - maybe 25 degrees or so - and tap it to loosen the grounds around the lower burr and guide them towards the feeder channel that dispenses the ground beans into the ground coffee container, using the little brush as necessary to push the ground beans to the feeder channel. With the grinder still tipped towards you, give it a few more taps on the back to help get grinds that may be hung up in the channel into the ground coffee dispenser.5) Pull out the ground coffee dispenser and when dumping it into your coffee pot give it a few sharp taps to free the grounds held by static. This process just takes a minute or so, and once you get the hang of it you'll get very little spillage or waste. Just don't forget to admire the uniformity of your grind from time to time before you dump the grinds into your coffee pot! The only little ding I could give this grinder is that occassionally the timer doesn't shut off. But when this happens I just give it a little tweak to the right to shut it off manually and it typically works fine for a while. And of course twisting the bean container to the right shuts it off too. I've found the timer to be pretty accurate, i.e. if you set it at 4 to grind 4 scoops of beans, it typically shuts off within a second or two after grinding them up.I've really noticed an improvement in the flavor of my coffee since I bought this grinder, and with some experimentation you can dial in the right grind for your setup so that you can get maximum flavor.

Great price and good result
The price is right and the result was a great grind of coffee. Another plus is that it is very quiet and can be used ad lib in the morning for fresh ground coffee. The cord is very thick and cumbersome...maybe more like an extension cord than a kitchen appliance but, otherwise, unit is cosmetically pleasing.I don't know if it's my coffee but the static problem mentioned elsewhere is pretty severe for me. When the ground coffee cup is removed, it sticks to the front, top and bottom of the holder area. It must be wiped out after every use...carefully. I actually scraped the bottom of the plastic cup when reinserting it with staticky grinds.

Glad I bought this!
I bought this grinder to replace a Cuisinart model that died after about a year. As frustrated as I was that the Cuisinart died so quickly, I'm glad it did as this Capresso is so much quieter and every bit as good at grinding beans. There is plenty of room for adjustment to allow the grounds to be as fine or coarse as one could want.It seems typical for coffee grinders at this price point to be somewhat messy, leaving grounds on the counter when the collector is pulled out. However, I find the amount of grounds left behind to be relatively minimal and worth the sacrifice for a fresher tasting cup of coffee. One minor complaint I have is with the dial. The grinder starts working once the dial is turned from zero. If I want to set the dial to "6", the beans are being ground the entire time I'm turning the dial. Sure, it's not a lot of extra beans being ground. But, I like consistency and want to know exactly how much coffee I'm grinding each time without having to factor in the time taken to turn the dial. Again, it's a minor thing, but it seems like an easy design detail to correct.

Still grinding away!
6 years later and it’s still working well! Used almost daily! Easy to assemble. The size is just right to be out of the way. Easy to clean. Had never clogged. Normal static of bean dust you’d see with any grinder.
