Is this real down? how can it be hypoallergenic? ?

Most people are actually allergic to dust or dander, not down itself. If it says hypoallergenic it means the feathers/down were hyper cleaned over and over until the mixture was void of dust/dirt/ dander. I believe this is what they mean.

is this machine washable?

Technically, you can, but I wouldn't recommend unless you have a tumbler washer, then dry in the sun. I never washed mine. You're supposed to put it in a duvet cover, but people use these like actual comforters. A duvet cover is what you wash. The duvet itself should be dry cleaned (like, if you actually spill something on it and cant spot clean), but I would just put mine outside in the sun once a month. It's amazing how fresh a duvet gets after sitting in sunlight. Because you're supposed to keep them INSIDE a duvet cover, and lays over your sheets, they aren't really supposed to get "dirty."

Does this make the crinkle sound

All feather/down comforters will make some noise. That’s due to the super tight weave necessary to keep feathers and down *inside* the duvet vs all over your house. A normal weave (think sheet) would allow the slippery suckers to escape. So crinkle is a GOOD THING.
