If you're looking for a curry book, this is the best one around. It teaches you everything you need to know from how to stock your pantry, to how to make traditional Indian breads. I've been using it since the first edition in 1997, and this is the latest edition that I've just bought for my brother.It's an absolute must-have for every curry lover!

I was introduced to this book about 4 years ago. I have since purchased 3 copies for friends as gifts. Invest a good day to prepare all the base material, invite your friends over, turn the music on and get cooking for an excellent fun social gathering in the kitchen. This excellent book is the perfect social centre piece in a kitchen of wine and music and good times with friends and family. Anyone into cooking and curry should have this book in their collection. The recipes are incredibly tasty and rewarding. You will never order a takeaway curry again; I haven't in four years!

If you want to make the curries you get at your local Indian Restaurant then this is the book for you. It's a comprehensive guide to all that is great about Asian cuisine in the UK. Recipes are easy to follow although you need to spend some time making up the various powders (masalas) and pastes set out at the beginning as they form the basis I of most of the recipes. There's lots of helpful information about all the spices you may use and the techniques are easy to follow.If you're looking for more authentic Asian recipes the you will need to supplement your library with Nick Stein's India. If you've got both then send all your other curry books to the local charity shop.

This book is advertised as having over 360 pages but in fact it is only 208 pages long. Very disappointing.

There is no doubt that this is book contains all you will ever need to know about creating restaurant style dishes. It is however not a simple "curry in a hurry" type recipe book. The recipes require some work and dedication, plus a good wide ranging stock of ingredients. Many dishes are created from bases such as "curry gravy" which need to be made first (and in quantity) to eventually by addition of other ingredients be turned into a range of dishes all curry addicts love. If you are serious this books for you, if you want it quick and simple, it isn't.

well this is the next step up to Pats Favourite Restaurant Curry Recipes which I have been using since 1987 and along with his Curry Bibles is an excellent way to improve your curry cooking skills with truly international curry recipes and restaurant prep and cooking tips - yum yum

I have many other Pat Chapman books. This one is very good but not her best. I wish the book had multiple weights, her other books had more ounces. I brought a gram scale to use this this book. I like the obvious advantage of making your spice mixtures ahead. Her recipes are alway precise and easy to follow. She also gives you clear directions, like blending the onions to puree and cooking until the oil comes out. You don't get these details in most books. I bought two books, one for me and another as a gift. I found myself having to explain details to the friend I gave the second book to, and I had to buy her a gram scale. But as I told her, once you work with her recipes you will really know how to cook restaurant curries. I liked the fact that she puts a traditiional indian recipe then a restaurant recipe so you can cook traditional or restaurant style. All in all I am really glad I purchased the books.

Comprehensive. Everthing one could seek re:curries. If one is seeking a basic lirary of Indian cookbooks then this book would rank among the top five.
