A design and engineering marvel for the dinner table: best pepper mill I've seen
Peugeot Daman u'Select shaftless salt and pepper mills are simply the best-designed, most functional and highest quality *engineered* items I have ever seen of their type. They make all of the several pepper and salt mills we previously owned seem like toys or junk. The Peugeots approach instrument quality for the purpose of grinding salt and pepper, and they are also attractive and easy to use.Several features make this an outstanding pepper mill:* The adjustable stainless steel grinding mechanism -- different from the salt mill mechanism, and specially designed for dry black peppercorns -- really works. Firstly, it delivers very consistent size grounds at any setting. Secondly, it is easy to obtain pepper from a very fine powder to very coarse by turning the adjustment ring on the brushed stainless steel-encased plastic base to any setting through its 270 degrees of movement. The official product photos here on Amazon show accurately how well these mechanisms are made, and how well they work to produce a range of grain size. In side-by-side white plate tests with our two other pepper mills of different brands, the Peugeot produces ground pepper that is not only more consistent in size, but that seems to release more aroma and flavor -- particularly in finer settings.* The shaftless design is a superior concept. Traditional pepper mills have a full-length shaft, to which the barrel cap and turning knob are attached by a top nut, through the middle of the unground peppercorns. As they are turned, the square-section shafts often used tend to bruise or crack peppercorns before they reach the grinding mechanism. That cannot occur in this shaftless Peugeot design.* The thick-walled barrels of almost crystalline acrylic are both attractive and functional. The peppercorns are displayed in a column which is both an attractive feature and a constant indication of remaining contents, unlike traditional turned wood units. Although smoother than turned wood models, the barrels of the units are easy to hold because they taper in at the middle, and flare out top and bottom. The entire clear acrylic barrel acts as a knob for turning the mechanism with one hand, while the other hand holds still the stainless steel base.* Refilling the mills is far easier than traditional shaft-drive models in which a top nut must be unscrewed, the cap/turning knob removed, and fresh peppercorns poured into an often small space around the top of the shaft. These shaftless Peugeots have a stainless steel-encased plastic refill cap held in place in a recessed fill hole by four small button magnets. It is easy to lift off the cap, and to refill the mills without spillage.Very highly recommended. The salt mill counterpart of this pepper mill, the Peugeot PM25458 Daman U'Select Shaftless 8.25 Inch Salt Mill, Stainless Steel is its perfect companion, sold separately on Amazon. Although packaged in sets by some Amazon Marketplace resellers and other retailers, Amazon's lower shipping costs of the individually purchased mills are far cheaper for international orders. The shorter 6½-inch version of this model, Peugeot Daman 6.5 inch Acrylic Salt/Pepper Mill Set - U Select would be equally attractive despite needing to be refilled more often.

Works great. Very consistent size grind. Easy to fill with no center rod
Don't know how many fair to mediocre pepper mills I've gone through in my life. Peugeot mills are solidly made, with steel grinding burrs. The dial-in grind keeps the grind very consistent, from very coarse for some recipes to very, very fine for table use. This is nicely weighted and looks great on the table - alothough mine seldom leaves my kitchen. I have recommended this pepper mill to my daughters, both of whom use lots of pepper and find their pepper mills continually breaking. I highly recommend biting the bullet and paying the extra bucks for one of these. In the long run, it will be cheaper than buying 3-6 cheap mills that fall apart after a year or two.

The search is over!
I've been through many pepper mills. Initially all cheap ones, once i got tried of that I decided to get a "decent" one and got a $20 from Scanpan - it was an improvement but i would still find myself spinning the mill constantly trying to get enough pepper out. This pepper mill is by FAR the best i've ever used. It grinds pepper very effectively. There are 4 coarseness settings which is easily and quickly adjusted. What would take me 10+ revolutions of my old pepper mill is achieved in 2 easy turns of this beauty. It is expensive yes, but if you want a pepper mill that actually works and looks great - invest in one of these.

Inconsistent performance and very cheap fit
I had high hopes for this after reading other reviews. My experience was different. The plastic parts (primarily the base that contains the grind settings) seemed quite cheap and poorly fit. The parts kind of rattled as if not machined to very tight tolerances and seemed quite lightweight and insubstantial. The level of quality reminded me of the interior components of a 1980's American car. While the metal grinding mechanism looks solid enough and seems well made, it was very inconsistent. On the fine grind setting, nothing came out - ever. On a course grind, it sometimes put out a fair amount of pepper, but then it would inexplicably stop putting out anything. I thought maybe it needed to be broken-in, so I persevered with turning the thing until my arm was sore. I also tried changing the settings to get it going. All to no avail. It was as if no peppercorns were getting to the grinder. Then, all of a sudden, it would start putting out for a bit. But then, just as suddenly, it would stop again. I even tried changing to a smaller size peppercorn from those that came pre-loaded, but that did not change the performance.Bad as it is, my old bargain basement grinder works better. When one considers that this is a pretty expensive grinder, I expected far more quality and performance. I have already returned it.

Purchased for Pepper Enthusiast
I purchased this for a pepper mill enthusiast in my family, who constantly admired our grinder when ever he visited.Ours is a few years old, and they have made some amazing improvements since then. Overall, this is an excellent pepper mill. It's weighty, not at all cheaply constructed. The top has magnets to hold the lid on (simple yet genius) and the mill holds a deceivingly good supply of pepper. Pouring the pepper in can be a little tricky - definitely recommend a funnel for this task - I made a mess trying without one. The grounds come out in several different coarsenesses, something that is quite handy for the chef in the family, and changing the size is as simple as rotating the dial on the bottom of the mill. Again - feels sturdy, made of stainless. We wanted to also gift the mill with multi-colored pepper corns, so we ordered those separately though Amazon and it looked beautiful. The recipient loved the pepper mill so much, we just purchased the salt grinder as a birthday present to match.

Peugeot PM25441 8.25 pepper mill
Not sure this is going to last - requires shaking fairly often for keep peppercorns in line - do not like the dial system at all. Difficult to read.

Peugeot

Pepper mill failed after 8 months
I bought the Peugeot Acrylic and Stainless Steel Peppermill (8.25 ") to replace the same model that i bought more than ten years ago. I had no problems until the interior plastic parts broke. The replacement pepper mill that arrived in late June 2020 has now failed after 8 months.it appears that the interior working parts may no longer be aligned as the pepper mill is now wobbly because of the slight protrusion of the grinding mechanism. Perhaps an interior piece of plastic has broken as the pepper no longer drops into the grinding mechanism. And I do not want to grind and eat plastic.I have ordered (to be delivered Saturday February 27) another Peugeot Beechnut Wood Pepper Mill which is the more classic style with the rod down the centre to the grinding mechanism. I do hope that this product will have a long life. I still believe that Peugeot make the best pepper mills.Thank you for your attention to my dissatisfaction.Colin Green

切れ味
サクッと切れる・・という印象です。前に使っていたものは砕く・・という感じでした。どちらが良いのかは人それぞれだと思われます。
