Great Series With A Warning!!! The Ultimate Collection Stops Halfway Through the Series
I first got into Ultimate Spider-Man a few years ago, knowing that it was good for a casual reader like me. The benefit of the Ultimate line is that it is a modern update on characters that is self-contained with a definitive ending, similar to the New 52 in DC comics, so it's a great entry point without being too daunting. More specifically, this Ultimate Spider-Man series is one of the best takes on the character I've read, and is really a great updated saga on an iconic character. I absolutely loved it.But ,that being said, there is a major word of warning for anyone buying this version: THIS ULTIMATE COLLECTION LINE STOPS HALFWAY THROUGH THE SERIES. As of the date of this review, the series stops at volume number 7, and there is no indication that it will continue anytime soon with a volume 8 and beyond (its been years since the last volume and no updates on the publisher on the next volume). What this means is that if you were looking to read the full series in physical form, you have to fill out almost half of the Ultimate Spider-Man run with single trade paperback volumes 15-22 after this ultimate collection stops, which can be incredibly costly depending on the availability of volumes. I haphazardly got into this collection without knowing that it did not continue, and was left hanging partway. In retrospect, for a series of this size, I would have read everything digitally, or gone about it some other way, if I had done more research.TL;DR- This take on Spider-Man is an incredibly enjoyable comic book series in a collection that, at least as of now, stops in the middle of the series, leaving you hanging and forced to finish the story through potentially more expensive means.

Ultimate spider-man vol 1
This is the best that bendis has or ever will do for marvel comics. This is my spider-man run this is the one that I grew up with so it holds a special place in my heart, but aside from that it's honestly a great comic book series. The origin of Peter becoming spider-man expands from the original one issue origin to I think it's four- five issues. Now this is the series that later on leads to the first miles morales spider-man series. But that happened like 10 years from this volume and I'd you're a fan if miles this is a great way to expand on his origin this is the first one you get and I know you won't be disappointed with it. This volume has the whole first year of ultimate spider-man. This one is definitely in my top comics ever and I highly recommend it.

Five stars from an old-school fan of the Webhead (SPOILER-FREE)
I've been a big Spider-Man fan for years. I guess you could call me an old-school fan, as I've really enjoyed much of what Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, and John Romita did with the character and his world back in the 60s. While waiting for the latest volume of the Marvel Masterworks series to come out, I decided to pick this up on a whim. Boy, was I glad that I did. Terrific writing and tone from Bendis and great artwork from Bagley. It was a treat to see the origin and some of the characters re-imagined for a more modern feel. The few issues that I have with the main continuity's origin were addressed and, in my opinion, fixed. If I had a complaint, it's that some of the villain redesigns didn't work for me, especially the big bad of the first story arc. This, of course, is a taste issue and may not bother you too much. After reading this, I felt compelled to come back on to Amazon.com, review this volume (my first one, mind you), and order the next one. I don't care that I'm late to the party - Ultimate Spider-Man is spectacular. While I'd say that the Stan Lee/Steve Ditko stories are the best place to start for people who want to get into Spider-Man (check out the Marvel Masterworks series for that), this TPB certainly isn't a bad place to go either. This volume collects Ultimate Spider-Man issues #1-13 (the first two story arcs). As a nice little bonus, the cover art to all these issues are included as well as character concept art.

VERY COLORFUL AND PACKED WITH PAGES
FIRST, let me state I think these make a great gift, but; better yet a great CHRISTMAS GIFT.Well, I haven't read it but my authority on Spider-Man (13 yr old grandaughter) told me she absolutely is loving it. I have ordered couple of these to see if she enjoys them and she does. I noticed myself these are a series of comic books packed into one. One book has 336 pages and the other about half that. When she comes to visit, we get on the computer, look at individual series and she discusses characters, events, when if she know the book originally was written.I am blown away with her knowledge of Stan Lee. I was 65 before I'd heard of him.I did some research to help with the chronology of the series in order to facilitate what issues to order. I have enjoyed doing this with her and I'm sure a parent/grandparent just getting one issue to share with a child would be rewarding if the child is interested. It's very rewarding when your teen calls you to thank you for the books, but; even better when they get excited telling you about events of the books.

Best Start of something new!
What can I say? Its just original. Best start at a new series of Spider Man, once you pick them up, you wont want to put them down. The reason why I liked this particular series is because from a personal perspective, they are really funny and it has a lot of events that we all can relate to when were in our teens, its pretty neat. Enjoy it!
