They are handcrafted using a fire-splashing technique giving each gourd its unique and vibrant style The bombilla was specially chosen for its lack of aluminum content. Our bombilla (straw) is 15.5cm of nickel-plated brass-the perfect gourd companion piece.This is the ideal set to for an authentic mate experience. The gourds are nature-grown so sizes will vary. Each gourd is approximately the size of a large apple. HOW TO CURE A GOURD BEFORE USE 1. Clean out natural debris from the gourd by filling it with hot water and scraping the sides with spoon 2. Fill gourd ¾ full with yerba mate 3. Fill gourd with hot (not boiling) water 4. Let the hot water absorb for 30 minutes 5. After 30 minutes, the water level will have lowered due to absorption. Add hot water to fill the gourd again 6. Let the gourd sit for 24 Hours 7. After 24 hours remove the yerba mate and gently scrape the inside of the mate gourd with a small spoon to remove loose debris 8. Wash the inside of the gourd with hot water (do not use soap!) 9. Your gourd is ready for use 10. To maintain properly it is important to place it face-down on a drying rack after each use
