I use this as a topper for my house plants. It ensures I have no soil gnats and it looks super “zen garden” cool.

Definitely recommend this product especially if you suffering from gnats infestation.

This sand is awesome, although the black sand looks more like a dark green in my opinion, but I don’t care. I got this sand to cover the top soil of my house plants to keep out unwanted house guests, fungus gnats. It’s pointless trying to keep them out of your house entirely because they’re so small that they can fit through any screen, but they only to get in when your plants have root rot, and your soil is too wet. To prevent both of these problems: 1. Cover your potted plants top soil with a couple inches of this sand. This stops fungus gnats from laying eggs in your soil and it suffocates and living eggs or gnats that are already in your soil. 2. Stop watering your plants from the top, and instead water them from the bottom using potting saucers that are a few inches deep. Which keeps you from over or under watering your plants, and preventing root rot entirely. The trick is to let your plants sit in about 3” of water, and wait 20 minutes. That way they have plenty of water and time to drink as much as they need. This method has helped me, and my (indoor and outdoor) plants immensely, and has kept all those pesky fungus gnats (and other bugs), away from my plants and my home.

The little plant gnats haven’t gone away completely but there’s less of them. I think I put maybe an inch in each pot lol this is my third bag of the sand to try and be rid of them. So we have like 15 plants at work, used a total of 2 5lb bags and got this last one to add a little more and for one more plant. There goes my money… lol but I think it’s helpful. Still have the little bugs flying around… hopefully they go away. I bought a spray for it, plant food and a coworker got the little sticker stakes to catch the pesty gnats also.

I should have purchased this a long time ago. I’ve been dealing with a very bad infestation of fungus gnats. Tried Zevo flying insect traps and spray, Neem oil, diatomaceous earth, mosquito bits, vinegar traps, sticky traps, bottom watering, cinnamon, etc.. Nothing worked. After spreading an inch of this sand on top of all of my plants, the gnats were gone in 2 days. To prevent the sand from washing away, I purchased self watering globes for the plants that could not be watered from the bottom.

Looks good in the potted plant, but more importantly it has fixed the moth fly problem I was having! 1 bag size fills about 4 smaller plants. 1 bag size fills about 1 larger plant.

Bought this for my snake plant and so far it has added a beautiful touch to the top of the soil and made my plant look a little neater. Actually kind of love the look now. Feels exactly as sand should. Got enough to use to replant in a few weeks just working on getting rid of some lovely house plant gnats due to a bad batch of soil

It’s very sparkly and does look a bit in the green side rather than black maybe it’s reflecting green from the plants because of the shiny-ness, bc in the bag it’s black. Bought to try to deter slugs from my plants. It didn’t help with that.
