The Essential Belloc: A Prophet for Our Times

An Anglican Catholic faithful to the Chair of Peter, Belloc is imbued with a pure love for the Christian faith and tradition. He writes, therefore, from the perspective of a knowledgeable observer of his milieu and a bellwether for the Christianity, that during his time, is undergoing a crisis that had precipitated the culture wars and a deepened digression or downward spiral into modernism of much of the Christian sector. Meanwhile, the catholicity, by and large, of the Church has been threatened by a resurgent, jihadist Islam. Only time will tell if Lepanto or Vienna will once again transpire in our age, when the Islamic force will confront, in conquest, the holy and physical ramparts of the Church.

There are those whose words and thoughts pass the test of time. Some have lasted thousands of years. That same quality is present in Belloc's writings in that they are as relevant today as when he entered this world almost 150 years ago. As they are lasting, they are transcendent, applicable in various cultures. Yes, a Prophet for Our Times!

Belloc's writing is always accessible and meaningful. He has so many amazing things to teach us, and this presentation of major quotes is a good primer for those who are completely unfamiliar with him, and those who like to use his quotes in their own writing.

In my opinion the title of the book "A Prophet for Our times" by Hilaire Belloc a renoun Catholic historian gives the reader a very realistic view of how a true Catholic sees the our world today... its well written and a worthwhile purchase
