I am really not sure who's the audience for this book, I'm also convinced that any other publisher would've found it very difficult to sell even 5k copies/ or would even commission such a project- I mean why would any 'reader' want to buy an exhibition catalogue ? There's a fundamental difference between a reader and a curious visitor to a exhibition. Quite frankly Wellcome Trust's Name is doing all the Heavy lifting here. It doesn't end there unlike a catalogue where the explanation/context is alongside a picture here it's stacked as reference at the end of each chapter so essentially a reader would've been flipping back-and-forth to make any sense of the illustrations which are only as good as a private collection of most collectors - doesn't carry any significance other than the novelty factor. Publisher describes the book as " An exquisite treasury of illustration and objects tracing encounters with Ayurveda and Indian medicine" there's nothing exquisite (or even informative) from perspective of Indian history, culture and medicine. I'd intended to gift it to an acquaintance but decided not too, missed out on the return timeline as well (otherwise would've filed for a refund ).
