I finally installed one of these door vents, and I am so glad that I did. These are not that difficult to install. I first placed the female side of the vent on the door (used as the template), measured about 4" from the bottom of the door, and marked the four corners, both sides of the door. I then placed some painters masking tape (to protect from chipping) in the area of where the cut would be on both sides of the door. Then again, placed the female side of the vent on the door, and traced over the masking tape with a pencil. Next, I drilled the four corners with a 3/16" drill bit where I wanted the 7/8" spade bits center to be. Then, one side at a time, I used a 7/8" spade bit to enlarge the holes and shape the corners (vents interior corners are rounded), and then cut the remainder of the hole with a jig saw. The vent installed and fit together flawlessly. Both sides are reversible as well. I have mine set up with the louvers pointing down in the room, and up in the hallway. I noticed a significant increased in the amount of air flow as apposed to both sides facing down. As a reminder, do not over tighten the screws! They will keep pulling through the back side of the vent if you do. If the vents are still loose and the screws bottom out, trim the ends of the screws if necessary for the proper fit.

Needed some kind of air return for my son's bedroom which was always hot despite being very close to the central air unit and all vents being clear, etc. This did exactly what was needed! The color matched his old bedroom door which is made from very thin and cheap material.I used the vent as a guide, marking all around and then taped off the door where I was cutting to prevent it from just splintering. Drilled a few holes to get started and then just cut out the shape with a reciprocating saw. I cut conservatively and tested for and made additional cuts as needed to get a snug fit.Screws went right on in and boom, done. Maybe 15 minutes tops start to finish. The room is cooler and the kids is happy.

Installed it 5.5 inches up from the bottom of the door. I did have to shorten the screws about 1/8 of an inch due to the thickness of the door.I would definitely by again if I needed another somewhere else.
