Would a magnetic reed switch do the same thing if a coil was placed next to it to convert the EMP into a magnet and short out the EMP?

Reed switches are useful to detect and react to strong magnetic fields from high currents, but they wouldn’t have the response time to protect from an EMP’s E1 or E2. Also, we looked into them for possible switching to protect from the E3 of an EMP or CME but didn’t find them to be good fits for that application either.

Physical measure what kp level trips this device g 3 strong power systems: voltage corrections may be required, false alarms triggered on some?

There was no trip voltage given, but it will handle 5KVP surges in a few nanoseconds. The item is static sensitive and comes in a static protection bag... No voltage adjustments are possible... it's an all or nothing response and I'm not sure if it is possible to overwhelm the device with an exceptionally strong G3 event.

This will only take care of transient energy that couples into the vehicle during an EMP. It is not designed to block RF signals.

Will this protect my vehicle better than having it parked in a metal gabage can?

No. The most effective way to protect an item is with metal as that would protect from any transient energy coupling into the item in the first place. The TRAP is designed to 'soak up' the transient energy in the case it was not protected under metal.
