Literally a life-saver
Since using this product for a few weeks I can't overstate how much my breathing has improved! During the day I feel excellent and no problems at all. During sleep my blood oxygen levels no longer drop below 90%. Actually they're in the mid-90s now whereas they would always be 90% or below during sleep. Sometimes getting dangerously low.. I took 2 approaches.1) I used this device to strengthing by diaphragmatic breathing. Ensure that your belly is expanding and deflating when you breathe! When I strated using the device I could hardly blow out at the lower settings. Now 6 weeks later I am breathing in and out at almost the highest settings. It is still challenging but the results are amazing and I'm getting better every day. I no longer feel like I'm struggling to breathe throughout the day and I feel like I have good health for the first time in years!2) Although this device strengthens diaphragm by using the mouth to breathe, apart from that, I now primarily breathe through my nose whereas before I was mouth-breathing, which seems to be extremely unhealthy for me and NHS says we should breathe in and out through our nose and that the mouth is for eating, not for breathing. I am awaiting a GP appointment for suspected sleep apnea but in the meantime breathing through my nose during sleep and strengthening my lungs with this device has saved my life.I couldn't recommend more!

Far too expensive
The bad bit. These will cost pence to make in Taiwan, at least not China! So well over priced. However the idea seems sensible and the video help explain how to use and I am confiden they will improve my breathing. Let try cutting the price in half!!

It does what it advertised
It should be easy to use but you have to go on line to receive instructions. Not the easiest on line instructions to navigate

Seems to work and be well-made. Whether it actually helps is not yet clear.
[Update after six months]I've been using this for six months, and I feel that my original review remains correct: the device is well-made and robust, but I'm unsure whether it actually helps. I gradually worked my way up to using it on maximum resistance and, although it no longer hurts my chest, it hurts my abdominal muscles instead. Since diaphragmatic breathing is the name of the game, perhaps that's a good sign? Who knows?Using it 2x3 times a day requires an investment of time and effort. I'm really not sufficiently convinced of its effectiveness to continue with it indefinitely.[Original review]I've recently suffered a series of pulmonary embolisms, and I've been aware -- perhaps "obsessive" would be a better word -- of my breathing for the first time. I've noticed that I have inefficient breathing patterns that probably pre-dated the disease, perhaps by decades. I've been looking for a device that would encourage diaphragmatic breathing, and this "Breather" seems to be in the right ball-park.On the positive side, the device seems to be well made. Other reviewers have complained about theirs falling apart of clogging up, but so far mine seems as sound as the pound. Despite what others have said, the resistance does increase when I turn up the dials. There is some resistance even on the "1" setting, and quite significant resistance on "6". So far I have not gotten past "3", and I'm not sure whether I ever will. I believe that the same company make a higher-resistance device more aimed at sports training; this device is really for rehabilitation. The device is pocket-sized, so no problem with keeping it close by. It makes a distinctive whistle when you're blowing hard enough. On the negative side, though -- it really isn't clear how to use it. There are videos, but I suspect you need more equipment to use it properly. The instructions say you should aim for 60-70% of maximum respiratory pressure, but how do you measure that, without extra equipment? I guess you could use it with a manometer, if you had one; but that's additional cost for an unclear additional benefit. In the videos its says to use the device twice a day; in the written instructions its says "2-3 times a day". I guess the difference between twice and three times isn't enormous, if you don't even know how hard to blow it, but the lack of correspondence is a little disconcerting.Leaving aside these complaints, though...Even the "1" setting provides some measure of resistance. It doesn't feel much at first, but the effect of the effort builds up when it's used repeatedly. If I blow it hard (and I have no idea how hard to blow) then at the end of the day I'm sore in my chest, in the same way that I am after pushing weights. Probably if it hurts your chest, you're not doing it right, because the whole purpose is to exercise your diaphragm; but I find it hard not to use my chest to breath. I found that the chest ache eased after a couple of weeks on a low setting, but whether that's because I'm using it better, or whether it's because I'm subconsciously blowing it less hard, I really don't know. Increasing the resistance does make it more painful, at least for a time. But, cutting to the chase -- so far, I have not noticed any benefit. It hasn't decreased my breathlessness or improved my exercise tolerance. I don't expect a breathing trainer to heal my embolism -- that's going to take months or years of medication. I was hoping that improved breathing mechanics would offset the lung damage to some extent but, so far, it hasn't. I don't know how much it would help someone with COPD or asthma, because those aren't my problems. So, in summary, a well-made, easy-to-use device, whose long-term benefit remains unclear.

Massively improved my wife’s breathing after covid
I came across the breather after researching ways to help improve my wife’s breathing and breathlessness after she survived 2 weeks in hospital with covid lung inflammation and double pneumonia and this made a tremendous difference in just over one week of use.I read other reviews from post-covid users on this product and from our own experience it definitely seems to have played a significant part in her recovery with a very noticeable difference after one week. Prior to using the breather my wife’s oxygen saturation level was hovering consistently around 93, had pain in her upper chest area when breathing in and couldn’t make it to the top of our stairs without having a couple of breaks on the way up due to the breathlessness. After one week her oxygen saturation level is now consistently staying around 99, the pain in her upper chest is still there but only a little now (which from my research seems to be from a weakening of the diaphragm from being on pressurised oxygen) and she sometimes forgets she is still recovering and is jogging up our stairs which just shows me just how much she has improved.I can confidently review this has helped her recovery because she was home for 3 weeks before we bought this product and was showing very little improvement in her oxygen levels, chest pain or breathlessness and one week later she is literally jogging up the stairs. We did a lot of research on supplementation post-covid as well which might have also played a role in her recovery to date but in my opinion the breather was a vital part of our toolkit.

Expensive but worth every penny
I have COPD and this is the most helpful breathing aid I have tried that doesn't use drugs. Deceptively simple, but fiendishly clever.

Big success
I bought this to replace my old exerciser as it didn’t help me improve my exhale strength. I read the reviews and it deserves all the praise. It is excellent. My exhale breathing has improved a lot since I began and there has also been improvement with my inhale strength. I can certainly feel the difference in lung capacity which is something I need to maintain. It is definitely going to remain a part of my daily routine in future.

Breathing training
Easy to use and clean. Instructional videos are helpful. At one week in I think I can breathe somewhat more deeply. This may be helping with my jogging and swimming, but it is early yet. I have found that resistance to exhaling (lowest setting) is giving me a feeling of eardrum pressure (think jet plane landing) that lingers. Accordingly, I have discontinued that part of the "program". So, I use resistance to inhaling but exhale through pursed lips, as I was already doing in my deep breathing exercises.
