La Rubia Organic Yerba Mate with Stems 1 kg (2.2 lbs)

This is the first time I’ve ever tried Yerba mate. After watching videos and reading lots of reviews, I nervously selected La Rubia. Wow! There are lots of different Yerba mates out there and just as many opinions & reviews. There were different words used to describe the drink such as; smokey, air dried, smooth, bitter, and my personal favorite...wake the f@¥k up!I can honestly say no matter how many opinions you hear or reviews you read, there is truly only one way to understand what everyone is talking about. Place an order and give it a go!By the time the blond girl arrived I had watched so many videos I was an “amateur” pro at preparation. Never mind the Bombilla was delayed & would arrive tomorrow. I tore open the bag, took a big whiff(whoa smokey!) and proceeded to make this new(to me) and interesting drink. The first sip was interesting 🤔 it was a bit smokey yet smooth and velvety. It was full bodied and flavorful. Sip after sip, refill after refill it became more complex and equally intriguing. The real joy came when I went to study, I felt more alert and focused. I am so lucky! I’m happy to say on my first try I’ve found a winner and fell in love! I placed a second order so I’m sure to have plenty of this delicious goodness for a while.

Product tastes excellent with a smoke flavor. There was approximately 10oz of powder after sifting it through a flour sifter. If you don't sift it before use you’ll be spitting out powder and not enjoying your tea. The powder did not steep well, so it was discarded.

This is a rather unique and interesting yerba mate. The aroma is light and floral. The cut has medium-sized hojas (leaves), large palos (stems), and a fairly low amount of polvo (dust). La Rubia tastes very different compared to Argentine mates (e.g. Amanda) or Uruguayan mates (e.g. Canarias). There is a definite sour (cherry/tobacco) flavor. The flavor lasts for quite a while before becoming lavado (washed). I also found this mate to be rather calming in its effects compared to mates like Canarias which are more stimulating. Like it says on the box, if brewed with hot water, the temperature of the water should be ~70 0C (or else the flavor becomes too strong). Personally, I found that La Rubia tastes best when brewed with cold/ice water (as tereré). The strong sour notes become mellower with cold water and balance well with sweeteners like sugar and/or fruit juice/syrup. Overall, La Rubia is a very intriguing mate that makes for a great tereré or iced mate.

GOOD FOR BEGINNERS , LIGHT AND GOOD TASTES.

Love the flavor, strong but not so much that you fly off the roof of your head, just perfect. The ground is good too, not too powdery of too chunky. I've been drinking La Rubia for a few years now and it tops all the other yerbas I've tried. Great for everyday use!

Very strong, earthy mate I loved it! Buy this instead of the Guaraka garbage we get in the USA, that's always stale and weak - this is a whole different animal.A earthy smokey flavor that I am missing currently becasue I drank my 2.2 lb and am waiting for more!

The product arrived in good condition and faster than expected. In my opinion, this yerba mate is better suit to drink terere (cold drink), which is what I was looking for. I'm a mate drinker (hot water) but the common yerba mate I use for mate is not good for terere. Now that I found this one I can finally enjoy terere during summertime. The seller sent a free sampler with an uruguayan organic yerba mate, I think it's a great gift for costumers, thank you seller!
