Works quite well for mice
We're using this to zap mice, and for this application the trap works quite well; can't speak to it's abilities with rats and other rodents. Good features: a) the fact that the top of the unit can be detached is quite convenient with respect to removing zapped mice and cleaning. b) the unit seems to have been designed with operator safety in mind c) the remote LED that let's you see that the trap has operated from a distance (when the trap is in a concealed location) is a nice idea. d) So far, the unit has never failed; there's never been an instance in which I've checked the unit and found the bait gone. And, whenever it's indicated a strike, I've found a dead mouse. One thing I don't particularly like: the alarm/beeper that goes off, and continues to sound when it's zapped a mouse. I'm a very light sleeper, and it would probably interfere with my sleep if the unit were nearby. In the location I'm using it (far from my bedroom) this hasn't been a problem, but I'd be hesitant to use it too nearby. It would be nice if there were a switch that would turn the alarm off, but I recognize that this would boost the price. Also, the alarm feature that I don't like is something that some people would see as a big plus; different people like different features. Overall, I'm very happy with the unit.

Updated after some use.
So, heres the problem, the trap stops working because of the piss the mice leave behind, even thought I cleaned it after every mouse it ended up rusting inside and now they dont work. Mice go in and out no problem. I bought three and now Ive spent a bunch of money for something that no longer works. When you open it its easy to load bait and clean. You have to clean it after you catch a mouse. I use a wipe and let it dry. Ive used snap traps, the bucket and lots of others. for me this is the best. no blood and guts, and just keeps on catching 9 mice since my order, im back to order two more.

Excellent product I almost returned
The instructions are not accurate. I almost returned this before finding out how good it is. I used D batteries, when turning it on it will flash green, red and then every 10-15 seconds flash red indicating it is working. It will be solid red if it's actively zapping something. It will flash green and have an audible beep when something has been "eliminated". I have found it will always have something inside if it does this. If it zaps and whatever was inside escaped, it will reset and flash red again and be ready. 1.) Baiting - I used peanut butter (+cinnamon for rats). They love that combination for some reason. Make sure whatever you use, it can't easily be removed. Rodents will grab it and run somewhere they feel safe to eat. 2.) Location - If you're going after rats, they are extremely smart and will take time to get used to a new object. So don't move it for several days. I used a Wyze camera to detect motion to see if it was setup in a good location. 3.) Cleaning - I used rubbing alcohol and paper towels after each kill. It dries quickly and you can reset it. With trial and error this ended up being an excellent product. The instructions made me think it wasn't working properly. If you want to put it outdoors you can find a plastic bin that closes and cut a small hole out. Make sure it's secure (heavy objects, bungee cords and tent stakes etc.). If you leave it out at night you might have interest from raccoons.

Not as described
I had very good luck with a similar style in the past. I wanted one that plugs in so the voltage would always be at maximum. Description says this comes with adapter and can takeD batteries. It actually comes with a USB Cord and a lithium battery. The other attachment does not light up at all when I plug it into port. As there are no included directions on this part i'm not sure if it only lights up when there is a dead mouse inside. I prefer to use glue gun to bait my traps. I attached a selecton to the lid. I do not like peanut butter as it attracts ants. USB cord is approx 30 in. I added a brick so I can keep it plugged in. Green light turns off when battery is fully charged. As with my last trap blinks red about every 10 seconds. I haven't seen any signs of mice, but my 15 year old Yorkie has been on alert during the night. Is she deaf, probably. Is she senile, likely. Has she ever caught a mouse, no. But just in case I am ready. 5 years ago I killed over 25 mice with a similar device. I like it better than setting snap traps. As above if you use snap traps, using a glue gun to secure nut or dog food is a game changer. No more stolen bait. As price was good, I will be keeping even though it isn't what is described.

“YAS!!!!!!” Get this thing! On second thought...
update*** Totally bummed. I have had this thing for a couple months. Worked unbelievable. Kill rate was often. Then poof nothing. No lights no kills. I had changed the batteries out and it just never powered back on. So I guess maybe it has a limit on how many times it kills stuff then it dies itself? I probably caught 15 mice/rats. Totally bummed. 1st review: ok, I am not bought and paid for. I have had this thing for three days and I live on a farm in the middle of the desert. Pack rats, mice, ground hog thingys, all kinds of critters. But, I’ve had pack rat and mice issues and they eat wires! Day three and this thing is rock n and a rollin. The only complaint I have is it doesn’t self empty. Haha. Really tho, I won’t walk out to where it is at night. It has a buzzer that lets you know it has a dead critter. It beeps all night long. My poor ducks 😬. But that’s my issue not this things issue. I can’t teatify on long term quality, but on day three it’s a 5 star. Probably 5 empties so far? I may get more of these and keep them going. Happy customer here.

This is effective for rodents as large as gray squirrels
We have been overrun this year with chipmunks, red squirrels, and gray squirrels. They have damaged screens, woodwork, flowers, and destroyed numerous strings of outside Christmas lights. Some of the older rodents have obviously been trapped by others with Hav-A-Harts and not transported far enough away (or transported to our neighborhood). They will sniff around but not enter the trap. We purchased the Eliminator to hopefully eliminate red squirrels and chipmunks, not gray squirrels, because it has a very small opening and is only powered by 4 D batteries. But guess what? So far in about 4 weeks we have eradicated 4 field mice, 4 red squirrels, 5 chipmunks, and 6 gray squirrels. We only set it outside on days with no precipitation because it is not waterproof, and we usually get at least one critter when we do. The bait is a dob of peanut butter with a couple of split shelled peanuts on top. The gray squirrels seem to only enter when we are away from home with no outside human activity. I think they are afraid of not seeing or hearing us when their head is inside. Take the instructions seriously and clean the inside carefully after a kill. It is very easy to do. It must be completely dry to electrically initialize again. We use a hair dryer and leave it in the sun to get every bit of moisture out. Sometimes a rodent will manage to remove the bait without tripping the electronics, but it usually gets them the next time. So far, this is the best trap we have found. And not messy: the rodents look like they are sleeping.

Absolute crap product-see update
I have now ordered and returned three of these. They kill one mouse, very effectively I might add, then refuse to work again. I have followed all directions, cleaned them, done all the things. I even gave it the oh maybe it was defective, I'll try again. But this is #3. You might ask why I'm crazy enough to keep trying. It's because it's a great mouse trap that one time it works. It's safe for all my animals, no splatted mouse to clean up, all good things. But only once, and then never again. Edit: The actual Gideon brand one works great. Took me 3 returns to get the actual pictured version and maker.

Waste of money
Do not waste your money. I have had it for 3 weeks now and nothing. The first two weeks I was trying it with batteries but something in it is defective and it does not work. The batteries were brand new and putting out 6.5 volts when tested with a multimeter. When you flip the switch on no lights would come on. After messing with it I was able to get a green and then red light but no lights after that. I went back out a few days later and no lights would come on. Also the food inside was gone and you could see footprints inside. I finally gave up on the batteries and decided to plug it into the wall. The green and red light come on when the switch is turned on and then the red flashes every 10 seconds so it seems like it is working correctly. I have had it like this for a week and have yet to get anything. If thinking about buying one don't read just the 5 star reviews because you might think it's a good product like I did. After I was having issues with it I went and read the 1 star reviews which there are a lot and found out I'm not the only one .
