New Passages & counseling
The collective works of Gail Sheehy are a must for anyone venturing into the counseling and/or Reading markets...Readings?Yes, I am referring to those interested in cultivating their skills as a "Psychic" counselor/Reader. This material is the sort of formal perspective that separates those that just Read the Cards or whatever oracles based on tradition, from those that are dedicated professionals seeking to actually understand and help their patrons.

Times change - New Passages has timely info
What to do with the rest of my life? I thought this book might provide some insight into how others are coping with career changes and with the aging process. It was not exactly what I was expecting, but it provided a lot of examples that validate what I've done with my second career. I'm still looking for direction and answers to a new set of questions about widowhood.

This update of Sheehy's ealier work is timely and well ...
This update of Sheehy's ealier work is timely and well done. She reflects the fact that roles assigned to women and men are becoming more fluid, and that our improved health and vitality has made it possible to have meaningful and productive lives throughout our entire lives, that life is not over at 60.

You TOO Can Have Hope!
I'm 57 and the book gave me great hope that, just because my youngest baby is leaving for college and my career is in a lull, I don't have to buy a rocker and learn how to knit! There is hope for me and my hubbie! We can become International Spies! (Just kidding-- but we have every reason to think we can breathe new life into future chapters).

Not very helpful for me
The theories contained in this book about the stages of life were just not that helpful for me. The examples were of professional people with very important careers who lost there positions of respect. I get it, but the material could have been presented in a much more summarized way. What also turned me away from completely reading this book was the lack of understanding of the importance that religion and faith have in our lives. I ended up dismissing it as a misguided attempt at finding meaning in our lives.

I like it
The book was a required reading for a class. It's content was a little outdated, but thebook showed up in a mannerly fashion, and was listed as "used" so, I really didn'texpect more than what I got, or paid.Thank you,Becky S.

Its a good book with some solid advice.
Its a good book for any person who is going through life changes. It doesnt answer every single question a person may have on why they are going through what they are, but it has some solid insight in a lot of general ideas. Def would reccomend....

Outdated but still informative
A bit dated now as 20 years out of date. Quite a lot of statistics which are again out of date, but overall some very good stories of people who are travelling/have travelled into their 'twilight years'/
