Innr Smart Plug with Power Monitoring, works with Hue* and Zigbee Hubs

Re-review: The issues mentioned below were raised to support and an innr employee engaged with us via github with all these issues and a couple of firmwares later they are working great. Reporting is now fixed. The voltage protection functionality can now be disabled. Theres nothing left now to dislike and I’ll get a bunch more to use these exclusively for my home usage and replace my remaining wifi switches. Recommended plug and great support from innr. Thanks Gerry. Original review: I have now purchased 5 of these plugs. Connected via zigbee2mqtt and home assistant they pair fine. However they aren’t reporting the power usage states. There is a z2m github issue raised with multiple people complaining of this issue - presumably a firmware bug? of some type. This can be worked around by manually polling the plugs on a regular interval, I hit mine every 60 seconds. But they are keep switching themselves off and then back on again a few seconds later. I have at least 4 of the 5 showing this behaviour and others in the github issue comments reporting the same problem with them cycling the power. It is seemingly random but at least every day or two they randomly turn themselves off and back on again rendering them essentially paper weights as far as I am concerned and not fit for purpose. Edit: confirmed the cause is a ‘feature’ where by the plugs turn themselves off if the mains voltage hits 253v. My home is under 20 years old, in a new built estate and occasionally the voltage would appear to spike marginally above this value briefly. This is turn causes the plugs to turn off. You can imagine what happens when you have your washing machine or network attached storage array connected to one of these plugs and that happens.. I have no reason to believe my mains power is ‘bad’ and one would imagine the national grid monitor such things in substations, but nor do I have any means to change anything. All my electrical devices are fine and other smart plugs such as Hue, TPLink / Kasa and Frient (these are just the other types of plugs I own) do not behave this way and work fine. So my conclusion is the issue is how agressively these plugs are configured in their firmware. I reached out to support to see what they will do, if nothing, the plugs for me at least (and the others reporting the same behaviour) are paper weights.

They work perfectly with Home Assistant which finds them in seconds after plugging them in near to your HA ZigBee interface during setup (IE don't need any mobile app or other proprietary cloud service to get them recognised). The fact that they report voltage and wattage being consumed (when on) is a bonus that I wasn't expecting and the neat illuminated override button on the side is helpful when testing new automations. I have now bought about eight of these for various projects and I have had no issue with reliability so far (assuming network and range issues are managed reasonably). They do also seem to be boosting the ZigBee network as any ZigBee compatible device should so the more devices you have the better the network connectivity. Very please with them so far.

I bought these to use with ZHA and home assistant. I thought the outrageous price for these plugs would be worth it for their reliability and use for key appliance power monitoring. I set them up for my network rack and two TV and sound system setups in different rooms. The idea was they would be permanently on for the network rack and one of the audio visual installations, and a night time switch off for the other TV/receiver set up . They integrated into ZHA easily and I thought all was good. The power monitoring worked well and that one setup was turned off every night using an automation. But any time the mains power needed to be shut down, these 3 plugs had to be manually reconnected. Not a HUGE deal but annoying . But then every so often they'd become unavailable which was annoying for the power monitoring, but rendered my night time shut off automation, unusable. Over time these issues became more frequent until recently after becoming unavailable in HA, they will no longer connect. You can get the INSPELNING IKEA smart plug for half the price of this for power monitoring(connects flawlessly to ZHA) and their Tretakt ZB smart plug for a third of the price of this piece of junk. I have 4 of them and they have all failed in less than a year....all 4 of them !!!! Save your money. For smart plugs for Home Assistant, it's IKEA all the way

These where good, I did have some inital issues but after reaching out to their support they explained it was to do with UK power supply being slightly different so provided me a link to a firmware update which fixed my issue! Sadly now the switching on and off functionaility doesn't work anymore, just stuck on, but I have yet to find out the issue. Only had them just under two years

I only have HUE lights on my HUE Bridge/Hub but decided I wanted some Smart Plugs to Automate my Xmas Tree and another light in the entrance to the flat. Put off for some time by the ridiculous prices for the Philips Smart Plugs (30 quid EACH) so after reading a few articles I realised that the Innr Zigbee plug/sockets were Philips compatible. At about 17 quid they were a relative steal and they worked straight out of the box (phew!) - always a concern with 'compatibles'. Now my Xmas tree comes on at the set times AND if I decide I want it on when it happens to be off, a simple 'Alexa:Xmas lights ON' command spoken in the general direction of one of my Alexas, does the trick. How cool is that? In cas you think it might be tricky; trust me; I'm 72 and it's a piece of p.......

I really like these sockets, they generally work well and are one of the few models that uses Zigbee and supports 13A at 240V. Used with a Philips Hue bridge so they appear in the app. I've used close to 20 over around 5 years. BUT... They suffer from two major flaws, both in the v1 and current v2 build standard: 1. They rarely (every few months, or more often) disconnect from the Zigbee network and never recover unless removed from mains power. 2. Most units have had to be replaced because the High-voltage relay fails within a couple of years. This especially happens when connected to amplifiers, speakers or phone chargers. But it seems to happen regardless of the connected device type. Also worth knowing that the firmware cannot be updated unless if using a specific proprietary bridge.

Slowly replacing all my Tuya smart plugs with these Zigbee ones to be less reliant on external services. Work great with Home Assistant and they act as a repeater for other Zigbee devices. They provide power consumption (Volts / Watts) but current is missing under ZHA - although you can just calculate that.

Great for using with Home Assistant with a zigbee bridge, instead of the more common WiFi controlled plugs.
