Lost to Eternity: Star Trek: The Original Series

Greg Cox's work is always good...
...But this is BRILLIANT! People finally learn what REALLY happened to Dr. Gillian Taylor, plus it ties together TOS, Khan, Enterprise, Star Trek IV and even, remarkably, Lower Decks. Greg's Eugenics War novels were excellent, and this is no different. The Federation, the Romulans and the Klingons are meeting an ancient, incredibly long-lived and advanced society to discuss their joining one of them. Needless to say, things don't exactly go smoothly. But what does a 21st Century podcast about a marine biologist who disappeared in 1986 have to do with it? Read it and find out!

Continuity overload - but a great idea
I really liked the 3 differing storylines all tying into each other, but for me, its the True Crime podcast - Whatever happened to Gillian Taylor that really drives this story and those chapters I enjoyed the most. The compassionate hubris of McCoy creates the whole cycle. What will Temporal Investigstions say once the Enterprise -A got home. Great to have the Robin Curtis Saavik back too.

Doesn't feature Gillian Taylor
Despite the impression I got when I bought the book, Dr Gillian Taylor (the whale biologist from ST: The Voyage Home is NOT featured in this book. Instead she appears in a couple of pages at the end of the book. The majority of the book is taken up by a lengthy blow by blow review of the events of the film The Voyage Home from the perspective of various minor characters from the film.Additional to a re-enactment of the film, there are a couple of other stories going on.If you have seen the film I wouldn't bother with this particular book.

It is a better episode of Star Trek than any of the current "official" offerings.
The characters that you love are written so well that you can imagine their faces speaking the lines. Seriously, a few pages in and you will be very interested. A few chapters in and you will occasionally put the book down just for a moment and exclaim, "Exactly!" This book IS Star Trek.

Decent read, starts slow but picks up
Tough for me to review a lot of Trek books after reading ST Federation, which was the best ST book I ever read... Lost to Eternity (LTE) starts out a little slow despite the relatively immediate setup of the events to follow. But the author does come into his stride after the first few chapters and as the locales and new characters come into play it definitely picks up to become an enjoyable read. And I'm VERY hard to please when it comes to Trek books (or sci-fi of any genre for that matter... I demand a lot), so for me, saying it's enjoyable says a lot. I got the paperback edition because I simply prefer reading that way, easier on my eyes.

Lost
A great story with plenty of exciting twists and turns.Going back and forth in time was a little confusing at first but eventually made sense and the ending was great.
