Back to the Secret Garden

This is a rare gem when the sequel is as good as the original book.
I just finished reading the original book. I wanted to READ the original classic before watching the movie. So often our imaginations are inhibited from "dreaming" of the pictures that could be painted in our "mind's eye" by authors who effectively spark our imaginations from well-written prose. I found this sequel as uplifting and in the closing as "beautiful" as the book. But the beauty is not only skin deep. It is definitely a movie worth watching NOW in our current culture because of the thoughtful and caring comments and actions of the characters. So many of our children have been losing their way. They need to see and experience things that are uplifting and lead them in a more proper direction. A world with spoiled children and spoiled adults is not a pretty place to live. I suggest you watch the 1993 version and this sequel with your children or grandchildren and talk about it.

A rare gem, when the sequel is as good as the original movie
This is a great movie, worth ten stars just like "The Secret Garden"Our beloved child characters from the book (and first movie) are grown up. Mary Lennox is now the mistress of the manor, married to Colin, her cousin, who is now Ambassador to the United States. They have no children of their own, so have turned the manor into a loving orphanage.Martha, the child servant from the earlier movie, is now the chief servant, running the manor and the orphanage. Her free-spirited brother died during the war.As the movie starts, Mary is preparing to join her husband in the United States, and as part of getting treatment for a disabled child, arranges an orphan exchange with an orphanage in the United States that can help the English child with needed surgeries. Mary meets a child who, like herself, seems to love gardens even more than the people around her. She becomes the next child to come to the Secret Garden from across the ocean, just like Mary came across the ocean from India in the first movie.Meanwhile, Martha, no longer the child she once was, either chronologically or at heart, cannot find her way into the garden. The key does not work for her. The door hides itself from her view, so she has her own door built into the wall. Our new hero discovers the garden, discovers a friend who also loves the garden, learns more about herself, and eventually even convinces Martha that she is the right child to inherit the garden's responsibilities.Jealousies do abound, but eventually everything works for the good of the garden, and the garden blossoms and grows, just as our characters blossom and grow.I heartily recommend this movie to you. It will "grow" on you.

worth watching
I saw the original Secret Garden in the theaters and loved it. This sequel takes place years later and now you learn who she married and what happened to everyone in the first movie. The actors in this, adults and children, are very believable. The respect for the garden - the plants and the creatures - is reaffirmed, making this a good film for children. But adults who saw the first one will enjoy this as well. Although the first movie cannot be topped, with its much bigger budget, this one has a lot of heart.

Good Sequel
I am happy to add Back to the Secret Garden to my collection. Many years ago I read the Secret Garden book, when the story was available on VHS I bought it. I have since purchased the DVD copy. I also have the Hallmark version taped from the television many years ago. So it was quite a surprise when I noticed Back to the Secret Garden DVD available, and at such an affordable price $1.54 Cnd + shipping. Being on a fixed income, I enjoy my movies and it is wonderful to find them at an affordable price.Thank you for your quick delivery and the added bonus DVD gift. I am pleased with your service and wanted to mention my appreciation for your thoughtfulness.I like Joan Plowright as Martha, Camilla Belle as Lizzie, Cherie Lunghi as Lady Mary Craven. It's an interesting mystery plot development as the Secret Garden awakens once again through the eyes of a young girl. Love the animals, and the memory of Dickon and his contributions to the garden. It's like a metaphor for Hope, as Love and Passion for something prevails.

I was very pleased with this
I was very pleased with this...it was much better than I expected..it continued to flow along in the spirit of the original story. ( The Billie Whitelaw version). Excellent .....Better than one I saw called ( I think) ' Return to the Secret Garden' This one "Back to the Secret Garden' to me is for sure ..five star worthy.

Very enjoyable!
I already had "The Secret Garden" and wanted to see the continuing story. There is another movie out there somewhere of a modern American girl who goes to spend some time at the Castle (the home of ancestors) and her discovery of the garden. Thanks for making this DVD available.

Lifts the spirits of a senior.
These kids were amazing especially to a senior citizen who reflects on his childhood adventures.
