Meteora is the second studio album by American rock band Linkin Park. It was released on March 25, 2003 through Warner Bros. Records, following Reanimation, a collaboration album which featured remixes of songs included on debut studio album Hybrid Theory. Linkin Park released singles from Meteora for over a year, including "Somewhere I Belong", "Faint", "Numb", "From the Inside" and "Breaking the Habit". The song "Lying from You" was released as a promotional single. Meteora takes it's title from the Greek Orthodox monasteries. Meteora is the most successful album in the history of the Alternative Songs chart, a chart that specializes in radio play of alternative songs. As of 2013, the album has sold over 20 million copies worldwide, and is certified six times platinum by the RIAA. Meteora was also ranked number 36 on Billboards Top 200 Albums of the Decade. The song "Session" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance, losing to Jeff Beck's "Plan B". Some songs from the album were remixed with some of Jay-Z's songs for the EP Collision Course. .co.uk ------ Meteora, Linkin Park's second studio effort (not counting the 2002 remix album Reanimation ( /exec/obidos/ASIN/B000069CWE/${0} )), overflows with glossy production values and Big Rock oomph, fully embracing the pop instincts of their Hybrid Theory ( /exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004Z459/${0} ) debut. For many, Theory sounded inexcusably corporate, from its too-timely rap-rock sound to the long list of product endorsements included in the sleeve notes. Meteora will only amplify those complaints, but this album is actually truer to the band's nature. It's still impossible not to hear strains of Limp Bizkit ( /exec/obidos/artist-search/Limp%20Bizkit/${0} ), Korn ( /exec/obidos/artist-search/Korn/${0} ), Rage Against the Machine ( /exec/obidos/artist-search/Rage%20Against%20Machine/${0} ) and the like. None of those acts, however, would try something as blatantly anthemic as "Easier to Run", which would sound fine to a Def Leppard ( /exec/obidos/artist-search/Def%20Leppard/${0} ) fan, or as borderline danceable as "Breaking the Habit" and "Session". Linkin Park are what Trent Reznor ( /exec/obidos/artist-search/Nine%20Inch%20Nails/${0} ) was always afraid of becoming, but if you ever wished he would drop the pretences and just make a hair-metal record, you'll find Meteora to your liking. --Matthew Cooke
