Fun with Hieroglyphs [Metropolitan Museum of Art, Roehrig, Catharine] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Fun with Hieroglyphs Review: Educational & Cool - My 10 year old daughter has found this a fun way to learn about ancient times. Review: Superb!! With STAMPS! Perfect for children of all ages of all ages - What a super product! It is a book-box: in the box there is a set of stamps with the 24 hieroglyphs that represent sounds, and there is also a small book with just the right amount of information for a child about the alphabet, the language, the Rosetta stone, and some puzzles to decipher. I learned so much with this book! I am so glad I bought it for my daughter. She is very interested in Egypt, loves puzzles, and break the code games. It is simply perfect for her. Note: the ink is on the dry side... I will probably buy some stamping ink at some point in time. Some reviewer complaint about the size of the stamps. I think they are just fine: they are for writing! My child has smaller stamps from when she was younger. They are about a quarter size each.

Good for kids who are into it like my son.
My son liked it and played with it for several days. He learned his symbols very fast and kept writing different sentences. He even made me write/draw! :)) It is a very good book for kids who enjoy these type of activities!

Invest in a decent stamp/ink pad before you start!
Love the idea behind this but the quality of the ink pad absolutely stinks! It is SO thin and certainly would not live up to a classroom of children all having a turn! The stamps themselves are cheap quality but if inked correctly and pressed down hard do make a good impression. Our children enjoyed writing their names and creating a secret message. SO what's the book like? After starting with an introduction it moves on to talk about the hieroglyph alphabet. It then lists the alphabet in English, along with the hieroglyph and the sound it is used for. Some letters have more than one hieroglyph attached to them depending on the sound being made. Throughout the book there are puzzles quizzing you on what you have just read. Answers are provided in the back. How about the orientation? What is a cartouche? Several helpful phrases are provided so you can send your own secret messages. Learn how to count with hieroglyphs, about the scribes and the paper they wrote on. Of course no book on hieroglyphs would be complete without the mention of the Rosetta Stone which comes towards the end of this book. SO despite the poor quality of the ink pad I still recommend this book if you are studying Ancient Egypt as it allows children to actually practice what they have learned.

Fun for parents
Fun book plus stamp set for a parent who's long been interested in hieroglyphics. Kids had fun spelling their name, etc.

Never too young to learn.
Studying Egypt with my 4 year old grandson. He is fascinated by writing his name in different directions. So far we are just doing transliteration, but can invision using this tool to do more. He doesn't have the dexterity to draw, so this is perfect. His 2 year old sister is enjoying it at her level. Never too young to learn. Messy, and ink pad not very good, but over all a great learning tool.

it does a great job of explaining Hieroglyphics to a younger audience
When teaching Egyptian art to very young children who cannot write normally let alone in Hieroglyphics, the stamps included with this book are phenomenal for both stamping with ink and for making impressions on clay. (I will note that the ink stamp pad included usually comes very dry, so you will probably need to go buy another one). As for the book, it does a great job of explaining Hieroglyphics to a younger audience, with some great pictures and examples, and has a fantastic translation reference guide that is the best I have ever seen (and I did a LOT of looking!). Overall, this book and stamp set is great, whether you are an art teacher or just a parent working with your child.

Didn't come with Stamps or Stamp Pad but OK
This came just as a book but since it was so inexpensive I decided I would use it for art paper. It has some really cool graphics and pages. I bought the larger item with the stamps, and stamp pad on another site. Thanks.

This was bought as a Christmas present for my grandson and he was very disappointed when he opened the pack up to find the stamp pad was completely mouldy and unusable, and therefore he could not use the stamps. Is it possible to get a replacement ink pad please?
