Q: Does this require wrenches to tighten? Or is hand tightening enough?

extremely nice valve - the valve unions are threaded to the valve body - o-rings are used to seal the to body connection. Generally anything fittings that use o-rings are hand tighten ONLY no wrenches. We used these in a marine air conditioning raw water (salt water) application. They provide 7/24 hour 365day service as raw water emergency shutoff valves. About two to three times a year the valve is used to control the distribution of muriatic acid that is pumped through the air conditioning units to clean the ac units heat exchanger coils. So far the valves are working out great. We selected the GF flanged valves because of the corrosion and cost to maintain issues that we were constantly facing with the use of brass ball valves. With this valve we glued the socket union to the SCH 80 PVC pipe and clamped the pipe to a backboard. This allowed us to controlled the space between the unions. We did not allow the unions to control the pipe fit or put any strain of the valve body - a manly hand tighten did the job. As the design engineer of the refitting project, I felt the key to successfully using the GF valve was not using the valve to pull the pipe connection together.

No. It would be a bolted three piece valve in brass that would be the closest

with socket ents it’s 171mm and with threaded ends 151mm

Q: Can stem and ball be removed to clean ball seat and possibly the seat O-rings?

Negative. The entire valve can be removed from the unions on either side as well as the handle. The guts are permanently sealed in.
