Assuming I use the correct adapter along with this device, is it safe to fill with propane instead of butane?

Look at a 1lb propane tank, the green cylinders. Compare it to a standard 400-450 gram canister stove fuel tank and compare it to a 1lb butane can. They are holding basically the same amount of gas, around a pound each, but the propane tank is built like a brick outhouse. It is solid metal, super heavy duty, super thick. That's because propane has 4x the vapor pressure of butane. That means the propane molecules need super strong containment to keep them from bursting compared to butane. At the same pressure and temp, propane pushes 4x as hard on the container walls. It needs 4x the thickness of container to hold it. So 1lb of butane needs little more than a can like spray paint, but 1lb of propane needs fort knox to contain it. If you fill a butane can with propane, that amount of propane will rupture your canister.

Question 2

What is the point of filling a half empty canister and why throw it away? Sounds crazy, but why not use the half empty until it’s...empty

I use it for two reasons, 1) combining partial canisters when I don't want to take multiples and I'm not sure 1 partial will be enough, and 2) smaller canisters cost more per amount than the big ones. So I fill the empty small ones from larger ones.

Question 3

Do I need to worry about overfilling the receiving canister if it is smaller than the filling canister?

Yes. I’ve read about others doing that & liquid came out for a bit when they tried to use it. I time it. It takes about a minute to fill a 4oz canister from empty. So I weigh it, subtract the weight of the can & fill accordingly. Like if it’s half full, I fill it for about 20 seconds & then re-weigh it. If you do overfill, you can reverse the process & put some gas back in the original canister.

Question 4

This one doesn't have the gas relief valve like others. How do you release the gas if it's overfilled?

Thats easy. Just use either a small allen key or small philipps head srew driver and depress the fill valve stem.
