Okay for the price
These are a low priced set of knives. They look smart but in reality they are imitation wood not real wood. But that's okay they look the part. The blades are on the thick side to be honest but they will take a sharpening. I decided to try a couple of knives straight out of the block which did not go well. they were dull and a dull knife is a dangerous knife. I then tried using one of my steels to hone the blade. this worked okay and did bring the knives up to an acceptable sharpness. I then took the knives to a sharpening stone starting off with a 400 then 1000 stone this helped to get the edge into the correct shape I then continued with 3000 grit stone and finished off with 8000 grit. this sharpened the knives pretty well and following removing any burr the knives cut well. However I am a little worried about how long they hold their sharpness for. one of the knives in particular (the meat knife) need sharpening within a week even thought it was honed with the steel each time before use. So they will take sharpening but how long they hold the shape may be in questioned. All in all these are budget knives at a budget price. They will frequent sharpening but will serve their purpose at a very reasonable price...

Quality and value.
The knife set looks stunning in my kitchen, so easy to clean and nice and sharp for cutting tomatoes, and very good handle for grip. Well pleased.

Knife Set – Decent Starter Knife Set but Does Lack Quality Somewhat & Arrived with Damage
This knife set arrived in a branded cardboard set and consists of a knife block, x5 knives and x1 pair of scissors. The knife block is protected with shrink wrap plastic upon arrival and the knives are held within a separate cardboard box where all knives and the scissors are wrapped individually. There is a bread knife (312mm in length), chef knife (312mm in length), slicing knife (315mm in length), paring knife (195mm in length) and a utility knife (232mm in length). The knives have white wood effect handles which are made from a lightweight plastic and stainless-steel blades which are coated in black with a white speckled finish which is non-stick. I did also notice that upon opening the set that several of the knives had small areas of plastic that had chipped away on the white handles which didn’t look very good (see photographs). Also, it is worth bearing in mind that the knives are not suitable for the dishwasher. The knives are reasonably sharp on arrival but don’t expect super sharp blades as this set does feel more of a budget / student set of knives. The knives are lightweight and although I’m used to something a little more heavyweight the knives are still reasonably ergonomic although not the best in terms of balance. I do also worry that the black non-stick coating finish will wear off over time becoming quite unsightly. The knife block is made from plastic and has a hollow lightweight structure; however, this does mean that it won’t take much to accidentally knock it over which is a concern since when the knives are placed in the block, they are relatively loose. The block measures 120mm x 100mm in footprint with a height of 230mm and I personally think it does come across as quite plasticky. The block does have a sharpener / grindstone incorporated into the design for sharpening your knives which is okay but nothing special.Priced at £29.99 (with an additional £5 off voucher valid until the 31st January 2024) at the time of reviewing, for the cost I would say that this is an okay starter knife set which would be good for students. There is a good range which covers a variety of cutting requirements in the kitchen and the knives are reasonably sharp but personally the combination of flaking handles, plasticky design and the fact the non-stick coating will likely wear means that I wouldn’t recommend this set for anyone other than students.

For the money this is a pretty good set of kitchen knives.
In the hand these knives feel well balanced and well made. The curved blade profile works well when used with a two handed rocking motion to micro-chop herbs or garlic. The blade hilt is a little proud, so if you have a grip that tends to choke up on the grip your index finger will hit the back of the blade and it can become uncomfortable after 30 minutes or so. It's ok, not overly pronounced or anything but you can feel it.It has to be said they're not the sharpest knives I've seen out of the box. It could do with a run through a decent knife sharpener or chef's steel. However it does take an edge well and edge retention is fairly good. There's is a little flex in the blade because the steel isn't the thickest, but they're quite strong and capable of everyday tasks. The knives has a good centre of balance just a little ahead of the handle, meaning it doesn't tire your wrist too quickly. When you move your grip forward for finer work it balances well and helps with control and dexterity. The block is functional yet still pleasing to look at. I'm surprised though that it doesn't have a rubberised base to stop it sliding easily on the smooth surface. The handle profiles are really nice actually. They fill your palm just enough (I have largish male hands) and offer a firm grip with a good degree of controlOverall I'm impressed with this set. With a little care I don't see why it wouldn't last for a long time to come. Just don't use cheap knife sharpeners and ruin the blade profile and it'll be fine. If you use a knife sharpener, be gentle with it. Don't remove too much material from the cutting edge. You're looking to refine the blade, not to cut a new one each time, else any knife in the world won't last a year.Feels quite premium. Sensibly sized. Good balance. Fairly decent build quality. Very comfortable in the hand.
