Imperial Armies of the Thirty Years’ War (2): Cavalry (Men-at-Arms, 462)

This book has the total package. Considering this was a time before uniforms as we know them were worn, they focus on tactics, organization, equipment and standards. More color plates than most Osprey Men at Arms books. Especially good as cavalry changed over the span of the Thirty Years War. Well written by the same author of the infantry book.

This is a well written and well researched book. It holds the reader's attention in a compelling manner. Easy to read work. A must for all military historians, miniature war gamers, reenactors, and uniformologists especially those who are Thirty Years War aficionados. Of general interest to all historians and antiquarians.

For all fans of wars, include the Thirty Year's War: i recommend this product. Excelent purchase. Beauty ilustrated and well done.

The old argument about how wonderful Gustavus's cavalry was has abated but there remains a considerable period of change covered by this book. At the beginning of the War one might summarise the situation as heavy, three quarter armoured pistoleers (expensive) and mounted arquebusiers (cheaper) plus some exotic Eastern European types. As the war developed either because of tactical change or cost armour was reduced and the sword became more used for the swift charge. You can follow these developments in the text and, especially, the illustrations of this excellent primer.

Lese gerade über den 30 jährigen Krieg. Diese Reihe zeigt auch hier wieder wie informativ sie ist. Sie gibt einen Überblick über das Militär der damaligen Zeit in klaren Schilderungen, erstklassige Zeichnungen der Kleidung, Bewaffnung und Rüstungen. Ich kann das Buch weiter empfehlen.

Nada de los ejércitos español, francés...que se tratan en otros números de esta editorialComo es habitual, un buen acompañamiento de laminas para acercarnos a lo descrito.
