Basic and disappointing
I was expecting more from this book when I saw that it was written by a historian. It comes across as very basic indeed, so if you have a small amount of knowledge about Soho, you might only learn a little from it. It seemed to be a rushed book, as if The British Library had given the author a time limit of 2 weeks to produce his book.. There's mention of the first coffee bar in Frith Street, called Moka, although the first reference to it, it was referred to as Mika. No mention of Bar Italia which has been a part of Soho since 1949, and is still going strong. Quite a few personalities from the past are mentioned, but where are the more modern day ones like Sebastian Horsley and George Skeggs (Soho George)? All in all, a very disappointing read.

The wording under photographs and illustrations was too faint to read.
Book was ok.However unless you are an absolute fanatic of Soho,I think you might find it a bit of a let down.
