Stax Srs2170

I was looking for just the Drive unit for my SR-80 pro and for a little bit more I got the drive unit and SR-207. I currently have the unit connected to my oppo BDP-80. Almost 30 years apart. My SR-80 pro still holds up the SR-207. the differences i can hear 1. detail: there is more of it, I heard more low level detail than I have every heard from the older ones. 2. range SR-207 go lower, cleaner in the upper end to 3. more bass energy.I listen to all kinds of music and they do handle all kinds of music. This might seems like a lot price wise but the cost is low compared to a 2 channel full size speaker setup of the same audio quality output.ref: I grow up around my dads QUAD 57s and own 2 pairs Magnepan MG-12s ( yes a 4.0 HT setup for movies and music )ref: SR-80 pro are the smaller ones in the picture for reference

I bought the Stax Srs2170 headphones to replace a Stax Sr-5 headphone I purchased in 1980 which had failed after 36 years. The music is just as clean, crisp and clear as the 1980 headphones. The Srs2170 connects to the amplifier's tape monitor output, unlike the older model connects to the amplifier's speaker output terminals. This means that the amplifier's tone controls are bypassed using the Srs2170.. Both models sound GREAT but need a little extra Bass which the tape monitor output does not permit. An in line Equalizer solved this problem but required an additional purchase. With the addition of the equalizer, the Srs2170 gets 5 Stars.

I'm immensely satisfied with my purchase of the Stax 2170!Very detailed. Very spatially-aware in the space they have. Without seeing a frequency graph, my ears would classify these as W-shaped..everything seems slightly enhanced and exciting. I tried several different genres of music, and haven't found one yet that the Stax doesn't do beautifully.I honestly don't believe I have any chance of beating the sound these offer, unless I go looking at double the price I paid, or more.#STAXBRO

They are comfortable and accurate in recreating the image of the stage. Bass extension is not great but sufficient and the middle range is sometimes too sharp. I sincerely expected something better. The price is fine, considering that includes the indispensable amplifier/energizer.

What can I say, these phones really stood up to my high expectations. The clarity of the sound is really good and neutral They are also quite comfortable to wear.

You will not want to listen to music in any other way after experiencing what Stax offers.

These Earspeakers are very good. Value is subjective, especially with the price going up.#STAXBRO
