Good quality, works great
I don't know why this tamper isn't more popular on Amazon. I bought this (58.5mm version) along with the super duper popular Normcore to compare. I personally think this one looks a lot better, and the style fits well with my portafilter (even though it's not a Matow). No, these springs are not "constant force"... That's marketing gibberish that every seller is inaccurately using. The force of a constant diameter spring is linear to the amount of compression. When pushing the tamper on my scale, the larger spring starts to compress at around 27 lbs, so if you stop compressing your puck once you feel the spring move, you'll be right at around 30 lbs. If you keep pressing, the spring will put out 40+ lbs, so don't do that! The Normcore slides a little smoother, and it comes with 3 springs but otherwise functions the same. I ended up just keeping this one.

Accurate 30 lb Spring Pressure
Well made, comfortable and easy to use. I pushed down on a mail scale to see if it did do 30 lbs of pressure through the center. It did. I have purchased other brands and some of them did not do the advertised pressure of 30 lbs.

53.3mm Espresso Hand Tamper
This tamper is a notable improvement over my last one, which was slightly too small for my Breville portafilter, and made it difficult to get a level tamp relative to the rim of the basket. The lip on this one solves that, and the slightly larger diameter of the plunger help avoid the tiny ring of untamped grounds around the perimeter of the basket. The wood handle is very high quality, and the force of the spring is appropriate to get a dense puck that does not impede the flow of water. The rippled surface of the plunger also provides a nice visual confirmation of an even tamp. Very pleased with this, and it has definitely replaced a couple others as my primary choice.

The Espresso Tool that Turns 'Meh' into 'Magnifique
A marvel in the world of coffee craftsmanship, this little gem is compatible with almost any 54mm portafilter. Its stainless steel ripple base doesn’t just leave a groovy pattern on your coffee puck (reminiscent of a mini vinyl record); it also works wonders for filtration. The calibrated spring-loaded mechanism is set to 30lbs of pressure, striking that sweet spot every time. This consistency is something even the most meticulous coffee aficionado can appreciate. The handle, crafted from red rosewood, is not just a handle; it's a statement. It declares, 'I love my coffee like I love my wine: sophisticated and refined.' This tamper is the unsung hero of my espresso routine. It’s a perfect fusion of function, fashion, and a dash of flair. It has elevated my espresso shots from 'meh' to 'magnifique', achieving a consistency that could make even the most seasoned barista shed a tear of joy. In the world of coffee, where every tool counts, this tamper is akin to finding the holy grail... but with a better sense of humor. Once you have it, be prepared to bid farewell to your old tampering ways - this is the only tamper you’ll ever need, and your espresso will thank you in flavors!

Excellent
This was exactly as advertised, you can fully unscrew it for cleaning and it looks awesome. I have not measured the spring load, but it does feel like it's 20+ pounds for sure. I'm using a Breville 54mm portafilter and this fits nicely. My favourite part is that the tamper sits on the edge of the portafilter which ensures a level tamp no matter the angle the portafilter is sitting. I highly recommend this product.

Very good quality tamper!
After trying out a few tamper for my Breville, I finally found THE tamper! This is a very nice tamper! The built feels very high quality. The machined parts are very nicely finished. It is said that this has a constant 30 lbs pressure and it seems to work perfectly everytime! The tamper is double spring loaded, one for the 30 lbs tamping and the other keeps a pressure on the black bottom part of the tamper to keep it level. The bottom is flat and not convex. This tamper fits a Breville 54mm portafilter perfectly! I use it with the original portafilter that came with my Breville Barista Express Impress (yes, I manually tamper it 😎). I'm very happy with this tamper, no need to buy a hundred dollar tamper. This is my end-game tamper!

Fits my 54mm Breville portafilter! Works flawlessly!
The media could not be loaded. I’ve been just using the tamper that came with our Barista Pro but it’s difficult to gauge how hard I’m tamping and if I’m tilted or not? This 53.3 tamper by MATOW is spring calibrated at 30 lbs., which helps me get consistent tamp pressure! It also allows me to get more level tamps. This is solidly built and much heavier over the small one that comes with the Breville! The handle is very much bigger that the original one and much easier to grip. This tamper does not require recalibration and it comes apart for easy cleaning! The product page mentions "wooden handle," but I can confirm it is not painted wood....it is solid aluminum. Like I said, it is very well built. Super impressed!I love the precision and consistency of using this so you can really dial in your extraction! Good consistent shots everytime! So easy to use! This would make the perfect companion for your Breville! Very good gift idea for espresso lovers! It’s priced at $58.99 which is fairly expensive but this tamper is very likely worth it because of its quality, design, and ease of operation! I do give it 5 stars!
