The grip plates are made of cast iron, as described. They are not fancy, but they do the job. I would recommend them for at-home use for basic purposes. Probably not something a dedicated body builder would want, but a-okay for someone getting started and wanting affordable weights. I got two of the 5 lb and two of the 10 lb to get started and will add to that as needed. (I am a 60+ grandma, so this is a good start for me.) Make sure to pay attention to the fact that these have a 1" diameter hole which may not work with some bars, attachments, etc.

Just for fun, I weighed these on my fish scale, and one was 2.7 ounces and the other 2.9 so these are really great for the affordable price.

They are a different diameter than all of the other brands I have in this weight, making them difficult to use

I have a freestanding TP holder that has "basket" at bottom for extra rolls. Well, it was top heavy and would tip over when you roll paper off. this little weight fits just perfectly in bottom and helps to stabilize the holder.

Husband loves the weights to get a good work out in, very durable, and good size
